Do you know of any Hamilton/Hamelton/Hambleton folks in Edgefifeld Co., SC in the early 1800's? David Langley died 1822, and his will mentions the land of "Sanders/Landers Hamelton". Sanders is probably short for Alexander. David Langley's will is witnessed by Alexander Hambleton. David Langley's wife Sarah Anderson was 1st married to a Hamilton, and her son James Hamilton is named in David Langley's will. Does anyone have any information on this Hamilton family or the identity of Sarah Anderson's 1st husband? Hi Sandy: Thanks for your response. I am interested in all Hamiltons from this area. The name David was often used in my line of Hamiltons. I have seen records on the Patrick Hamilton from Chester Co. So far, cannot tie my John Hamilton to him. I don't have the information on this William Hamilton (1700-1784), the immigrant to PA, yet. We are planning to go to that area in the fall. I plan to collect the deeds, probates etc. and try to put this Hamilton family together. My DNA contact said William did have a brother named Hance, who also settled in PA. Some of the next generation came to York Co. SC. Could you tell me something about your Anthony Hamilton? I have not come across that name before. Born abt 1789, your Anthony would be a bit younger than my John (1770/75), but they could be brothers. What are the allied surnames to your family? (Wife's maiden name, spouses of children, etc.) My Hamiltons are connected to the names Greer (Grier), Reid (Read), Blair, Taylor, Morton, Wyatt, Wylie. All except Greer and Taylor have Chester Co. area roots, and maybe they do too. Nancy In response to; Hi Nancy--no connection to my Anthony L Hamilton born abt 1789 that I know of unless your William may have had a brother? Possibly a Patrick or David? My Anthony was born (no proof) in the Chester area or thereabouts. Sandy H **************Feeling the pinch at the grocery store? Make meals for Under $10. NC - late 1700s Hi Mary: This is very interesting. My John Hamilton married a Martha Greer, and I cannot find the parents of either one. In recent research, I found some deeds for a James Grier (wife named Martha), in this time frame, who was from "Mecklenburg" and further research placed them in the Steele Creek area. If you have Hamiltons in this area -- maybe my John Hamilton could connect to them. I would like to hear about your Hamiltons. My John Hamilton was born ca 1770/75 (I don't know where). He married Martha Greer in the late 1790s, I would guess, as their first child was born in 1800. Five children born in upstate SC, meaning probably Chester, York, Pendleton District, around in there: Susannah, William, Ann, Nancy, and David Montgomery. Then the family moved to Lincoln Co. TN. Last child born 1811 in LCT: Margaret (my line). John Hamilton was killed by a falling tree in 1812. I have the spouses of all the children and all information on these families forward. The recent DNA results, which I mentioned in the Rootsweb message, have led me to a York Co.SC Hamilton family, the immigrant of which was William Hamilton (ca 1700-1784) who came to the York - Lancaster area of Pennsylvania. His wife was Mary Jane Bitener. The fellow who is the DNA match, sent me a list of this William's children, but hardly any dates and no locations or spouses. Some of his children came to York Co. SC. At least knowing about this line of the early William Hamilton is a start. He had 10 children, and I am hoping that my John Hamilton is the son of one of his sons. I am very interested to hear about your Mecklenburg Hamiltons. If they connect to Greers (Griers), then that would be VERY interesting. Please write again.
