There was a William Hamilton living in Allegany County, Maryland. He was manumitted prior to the 1850 census as he shows up in that census living in Cumberland. No family listed with him. The manumition papers are filed with the land records at the Allegany County Courthouse. Let me know if you want the address for the courthouse. Connie Beachy

AR James was b. in No. Carolina, his father was Moses Hamilton from Norfolk VA; his mother was Feba Hamilton fm No. Carolina He was a Taxi Cab Driver, male, colored, married His certificate was attested to by: Mary Terry, RFD#6, Box 24 (I would assume in Pine Bluff, AR) I hope this helps. I searched for my greatgrandfather for 5 years before a cemetery "counter" recognized his name - I now have found him. Wish you success. Looking for information about my Grandfather, Alexander Hamilton, born in Elwood Illinois in 1882. His father's name was James Robert Hamilton. My Grandfather, Alexander, was reported to have served aboard the USS Oregon. He died in an Army hospital in Portland Oregon on November 5, 1941. He had married Linda Cameron. They had 6 children, Robert (Bob), William (Bill), Fay Alexander (Bud), Peggy, Stella, and Roger (Butch). Believe he worked in lumber camps after the service.
