It just seems too coincidental for Lonaconing Hamiltons. My Arthur Hamilton, b. 1862 in Abbey Paisley Renfrew Scotland, immigrated abt. 1869 to Lonaconing with family (parents: John Young Hamilton and Mary S. Kirkwood). No brother Thomas tho. Thomas could be an uncle I don't have, as Arthur and wife Annie Allerdice md. 1885 and named a son Thomas. John Young Hamilton b. abt 1836-1839, parents: Arthur Hamilton and Isabella Young. This Arthurs parents were Arthur Hamilton, b. abat 1770's md. Mary Rennie in 1797. Anything sound familiar? Will share more info if needed. Ruth Sprowls sprowls@ncweb.com

(and btw, most of the signers did not sign it on the 4th of July, but that's another story..) he did play a major role in early American History, however. See below.... Alexander was a resident of NY. The signers for NY were William Floyd, Phillip Livingston, Francis Lewis, and Lewis Morris. Alexander Hamilton was a NY delegate to the first constitutional congress. He was also the first secretary of the Treasury. He resigned after a lack of support from congress and some financial problems. This was NOT before he drafted the "doctrine of implied powers" which said that the US government had powers implied by the constitution by not specifically granted. This document has been pivotal in US history. Jefferson opposed this doctrine, but it was upheld by the Supreme Court. In 1901 Jefferson and Arron Burr ran for President. It was a tie in the electoral collect. Under the rules then, both were eligible for the presidency. Hamilton's distrust of Burr led Hamilton to support Jefferson. Jefferson was elected President and Burr became our vice president. (In those days, the person with the most electoral votes became president, second votes became Vice President). In 1804, Burr ran for governor of NY and lost when Hamilton questioned Burr's integrity. They had a duel and Hamilton was shot. He died the next day. Burr was held in the "smallest federal prison in the country", which is still in existence, in Washington County, Georgia. Alexander Hamilton was later chosen to be on the $10 bill, due to his position as the first Secretary of the Treasury. He is one of only 4 people (I believe) to be on US paper money, who never served as President. Hope this helps clarify some info on Alexander.

My ggg grandmother was Sarah Hamilton, dau of James and Agnes Logue Hamilton (supposedly). Here's where I'm confused. I've seen on the internet in a few places that she was born in Ireland in 1814. She has an older sibling that was born in 1777 in PA as well as all her other siblings. Was she born in PA, perhaps, or maybe my Sarah Hamilton is not part of that family? I'm very confused! She married James Snodgrass in 1839. Hope to hear from you soon. Becky

My ggg grandmother was Sarah Hamilton. The problem I'm having is this: I've seen that her parents are Agnes Logue and James Hamilton, but the information says she was born in Ireland in 1814. They moved to the US well before 1814. I'm so puzzled by this. I'm trying to make sense of it all. Sarah m. James Snodgrass in 1839. Can you make any sense of it? Please give me an insight if anyone has a clue! I'm desperate! Becky
