    1. [HAM] William Hamilton
    2. Hello Everyone, I am new to genealogy so I apologize if this message is too wordy. I am looking for any infomation about my great grandfather William Hamilton and his family. He was born during 1848 in Kilbirnie, Ayrshire, Scotland. On 01 Mar 1872, he married Sarah Peters (born 07 Feb 1849) Symington Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland). I know that William and Sarah had 17 children, according to my grandfather, John Hamilton ( a son), who was born during June 1886. Grandpa had told my mom about 16 other sibling but he didn't mention any names besides, David, Christina, and Jeanie or Jean. Other children were: James Peter Hamilton b. 05 Oct 1872 Patna, Straiton Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland William Hamilton b. 28 Jan 1874 Patna, Straiton Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland Margaret Hamilton b. 1875 Patna, Straiton Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland David Hamilton b. 1877 Patna, Straiton Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland Christina Hamilton b. 1879 Patna, Straiton Parish, Ayrshire, Scotland Jean or Jeanie Hamilton John Hamilton b. 1886 I do know David, Christina and Jeanie came to the US via Canada and they sponsored my Grandpa. My grandfather died when I was 14 so I was not able to gain any information as to when he immigrated to the US via Canada. I will be searching for these clues also but I would appreciate any information that anyone would have and I will be happy to share any information that I have already or will find in the future. Thanks for your help. Nancy (Hamilton) Decker

    3. Ann, My family also goes back to the early Dutch New Nederland. My BOGARTS are spelled three different ways, as far as I know: BOGAERT, BOGAART and BOGART, but not BOGARDUS. The earliest one I know about, Adriaen Tunis BOGAERT, married Susanna HAMILTON sometime in the 1600s. It's hard to think there isn't a connection here somewhere! I queried this list not long ago, looking for information on Susannah. I have no information on her at all, except that she m Adriaen Tunis BOGAERT and they apparently lived in New Amsterdam/New York. Do you by any chance know anything about Susannah HAMILTON or any BOGART/BOGAERT/BOGAART people? If you do, I'd be very interested. Thanks and good luck - Edie in Maine

    3. Ann, I've lost my article re the BlackIrish/Indian - I was searching the Choctaw nets plus Ok/IT/AR - It narrated the horrible conditions the indians had with the white people - it was better to be part Black than part Indian; also, stated that the Choctaws were one of the largest contributors to the Irish Potatoe Famine. If you are Irish, then a must reading is "The Study of the Irish Race by Mac Manus" also, the "Scotch-Irish by Leyburn" and of course "the myth of the Black Irish" "http://www.hypertext.com/BlackIrish.html" My personal opinion is "Black Irish/Dutch" are both concoctions of USA. Ireland's relationship with the Spanish go back to the 3-400s AD - I don't believe a few Spanish sailor boys could taint (!?) the Irish Race. My opinion, of course. :-) Ken Hamilton/Sparks Baker, Santa Maria, CA lakeary5@cs.com wrote: > Ann where did your Hamiltons come from?
