Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/xFh.2ACEB/3374.1 Message Board Post: Sabrina, I am looking for a family of Hamiltons with a sister susannah and a brother William B., my great grandfather was George Gardner, the oldest. There was a David, Robert A. and sisters Margaret and elizabeth. Elizabeth died as a small baby. I know for sure that the Mother was Jane Hamilton, I have a copy of a letter she wrote to my G grandfather in 1876 with all the birthdates and death dates up to that time. I think that the father was George but that part of the letter is badly faded and difficult to be sure. He was born about 1792 and died 1867, Robert died about the same time. I have no other information on Jane after this letter. She might have remarried a Parker or her maiden name could have been Parker. Please contact me at arie43@msn.com.
hi Brenda.. what county was Thomas from? Sandy in SC
Are you near a Mormon Library they have a great record on the Hamiltons , in their Ancestery file
I also would be happy to know what rock my Hamilton's crawled out from I am having a terrible time trying to find the father of Thomas Hamilton who was 34 year's old in the 1880 united states census he was from kentucky, Brenda
I do not think it is the same family. Schuyler's father as far as I know, was probably James Hamilton, bn Jan. 1757. He resided in Augusta, Amherst, Russell co. Va. and d. in McMinn co. Tn. Sorry I couldn't help. John
Stark Co.,IL. History published 1887 Ppg 591-592- Charles F. Hamilton, editor Bradford Independent, was born in Armstrong county, Penn., May 16, 1837. His great grandfather left Ireland at the age of sixteen years, and came to New Jersey before the Revolutionary war. He raised a company of scouts and served as captain during the entire war of the revolution. His grandfather was born in New Jersey in the year 1787, where about the year 1809 he married a Miss Willis. His father was born in Essex county, N. J., in the year 1811. His grandfather moved from New Jersey to Armstrong county, Pa., with his family, and thence to Marshall county, Ills., in 1855, where he died in 1876. Mr. C. F. Hamilton's father married Miss Sarah Callen, of Armstrong county, Pa., in 1836. Moved with his family to Marshall county, Ill., in 1848, but returned to his Pennsylvania home in the spring of 1849. In 1857 he and his family made a permanent settlement at Sparland, Marshall county, Ill., and there his wife died that year. C.F. Hamilton was educated in Pennsylvania. On coming to Illinois he engaged in school teaching, and in 1862 entered. the army, as related in the military chapter and in the history of DeWolf Post, No. 371, Grand Army Republic. After receiving honorable discharge he resumed school teaching at Sparland, Ill., subsequently was in business there. Came to Wyoming in 1880, and here was engaged in the boot and shoe trade for fifteen years. In 1885 he established a boot and shoe store at Bradford, and in June, 1885, founded the Independent, of which he is owner and editor. ln 1858 he married Miss Anna, daughter of Martin and Margaret Harmon, of Sparland, Marshall county, Ill. Mr. Harmon came from Germany to Lacon, Marshall county, Ill., in 1855, and to Sparland in 1857. To this marriage ten children were born, of whom nine are living; three are married, namely: C. H., who married Miss Edith, daughter of the widow Clarke, of Bradford; George B., married Miss Delia Aldrich, of Ingersoll, Canada; and Miss Lillian married Walter A. Washburn, of Bradford. A reference to the political and press chapters, as well as to the history of Toulon and Essex townships, and Wyoming village, will point out the part Mr. Hamilton has taken here.
You're already in Ireland? Gosh I'd be happy just to find what continent my Hamiltons came from, or perhaps what rock they crawled out from under. Good job, Stephanie
The following marriage(s) were performed in Livingston Co., Kentucky.. Elizabeth Ann Hamilton married Charles Bennett on 21 Apr 1834 by R.Hewey Lilly, Presbyterian Church Minister. Bond: 16 Apr 1834 Bondsman: William Hamilton. William Hamilton proved Elizabeth Ann of lawful age. License: 16 Apr 1834. Nancy F. Hamilton married John Woodside on 7 Sept 1813. Bondsman: John Hamilton Anthony L. Hamilton married Elizabeth Woodsides on 11 Sept 1810. (Could Anthony be the brother of Nancy F.??) I'm hoping that someone can give me parental info on Elizabeth, Nancy and Anthony.. By the age of Elizabeth I'm guessing she's possibly a niece or baby sister to Anthony.. William could be a dad or older brother.. Anthony L. is my connection. He is said to have come from SC--with or without family. Marrying into the Samuel Cunningham Woodside family.. Woodside or Woodsides as it's given.. Thanks Sandy Hamilton

I have just received CD #197, Family Tree Maker's Census Index: County Londonderry, 1831 & County Cavan, 1841. I was slightly perturbed - :-) - when I only received these counties; I was looking forwarded to seeing County Tyrone & its Hamiltons. My James W. Hamilton was b. 1827 and went to USA in 1848. His parents, James & Rebecca (Smyth) Hamilton, were in the Strabane area - at least they had another son, THOMAS, b. 10 Jun 1829 in Parish CAMUS. There were HAMILTONs in County Cavan 1841, but a whole whole bunch of them in Londonderry, 1831. From what the Genealogist in Tyrone say, there were many HAMILTONs in County Tyrone. Names & towns within the Counties are basically the jest of the census. The CD may be of help to some but it struck out with me. I would appreciate comments. ken, Calif -- ----------------------------------------------------- Click here for Free Video!! http://www.gohip.com/freevideo/
Sorry, I can't help. Have you checked the following book? This was found at the Ft. Wayne (Indiana) public library but you may be able to find it in your locality. This book contains a good deal of Maryland Hambleton ancestry. Record of the Man, Needles (Nedels) and Hambleton families...1495-1876 Needles, Samuel Hambleton. copies: at: pubyear: 1 (GENEALOGY) GENEALOGY 1876
Noted mention of Andrew Jackson and Schuler Hamilton, My g-grandmother had half brother Schuler Hamilton. They were ch of Henry Eli Hamilton in WV. Is this same family? Gerry
Your Andrew Jackson Hamilton was a great grandson of Schuyler Hamilton and Susanna Dotson. The late Emory Hamilton researched this family and I was fortunate to purchase his book on this family on one of my trips South. E-mail me offlist for any info. I descend from William Hamilton, Schuyler's brother. John (johna18091@aol.com)
Also you might check to see if the "widow" applied for a pension from the state. Those usually give a lot of great information. Steph
Hey Paul, very nice message. I was wondering where in NC your Hamiltons lived (I live in western NC) and also where in Florida yours lived. Have we talked before? My Hamiltons went from Marion CO. SC and Robeson Co. NC to Jackson Co. FL. Hope to hear from you! Stephanie

Lee, Sure nuff....be happy to help. With the information listed, let me do some research at home since the unit doesn't sound exact, and I will email you. My email at home is: paulmattoon@clicksouth.net If initial research does not show results, I'll solicit the help of the Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) genealogist in Alabama, or you can at http://www.scv.org. But, let me first confirm the unit. Will advise offline. ~Paul -----Original Message----- From: Lee Thames [mailto:lthames@attbi.com] Sent: Monday, January 13, 2003 4:45 PM To: HAMILTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HAM] Unsubscribe Paul: The family lived in Eufaula, Ala., Barbour County, and the inf 1st BN co E, from Barbour County has a J. Dear Paul Mattoon: Your recent notes are very interesting. I'm doing research on my Hamilton family and like a lot of others I've hit a road block. You mentioned a James Monroe Hamilton NC-Fla. I'm trying to connect R.P. Hamilton b Va ab 1808 wife Elizabeth b ab 1809 Va, with children James M. Hamilton b 1829 Va., William N. b 1831 and Frances b 1848. The family moved to Ala in around 1830. James M. Hamilton married Mary E ab 1855 and several of their children were born in Fla., Thomas O., 1832, William G. b 1861 and Samuel P. b 1863. I'm pretty certain James M. moved to Fla and married Marry E.(?). The family returned to Ala during the civil war and James M. Hamilton disappears. I know he served in the civil war but can't find a record of him being killed. But rather I feel he and Mary E. divorced. I know its a long shot but does any of this line show up in your research? Thanks for your time. Lee Hamilton Thames
