    3. Having trouble finding anything about James. Just that is was born in Orange, Virginia, Jan 15, 1757, died Feb 6, 1844 in McMinn. It shows he wife's name as Nancy? He had Schuyler 1787 his son also borne in Virginia. On down the line. I did hear from one person that his father was a Luke Hamilton married to a Susannah or some such spelling of her name. What do you know about James? Got this information at Ancestry World Tree Project: Can I do anything more. Sally Hamilton

    3. Regarding the recent notes about Hamiltons in Canada and Hamiltons from the Hamilton area of Scotland, I have information on a family that involves both. My earliest confirmed Hamilton ancestor was John Hamilton who married Marion Hill in Hamilton, Scotland in 1759. Their son Andrew (born 1763 in Hamilton, Scotland) and four of Andrew's children and their families emigrated to Renfrew County, Ontario about 1830. A very large number of descendants, most of whom still live in Canada, have resulted from these immigrants. I have a lot of information on these descendants that I would be glad to share with anyone who is interested. Gordon Hamilton

    3. To the Canadian Hamilton researchers. I guess the reason I haven't been very visible on the list of late, is that I've just about given up. Maybe it's time to try again. I'm looking for a Hugh Hamilton. I have been told he was an "accounted Officer (whatever that means), in the British Army. I don't know where he was born (England possibly). I believe he came across "The Pond", but not sure of his destination. Could have been Nova Scotia, but might have been USA. Hugh had a son, John, born about 1788, whom I believe was taken by the "Press Gang". It is told that he and four other men escaped from the ship and swam to an Island. I believe that must have happened around Halifax, for in 1810 I find him getting land in Musquodoboit, Halifax County, Nova Scotia. John married Jane Mason of Rawdon, N.S., about 1814 and had a family of nine children. He is my Gr. Gr. Grandfather. Anyone have a Hugh Hamilton who might fit into this scenario? I'd love to hear about him. Gloria.

    3. I am looking for anyone who is researching the HAMILTON family in Tullylish Parish, County Down. I only know that Margaret HAMILTON married William PHAIR, 1839, townland of Clare. Witnesses were Alexander & William HAMILTON.. Margaret emmigrated to New Zealand, & when she died, Joseph Hamilton was given as her father. Possible that Alexander & William were brothers of Margaret. Elleanor, was probably a sister, she married 1835, to Samuel FINLAY, also in Tullylish. witnesses, Joseph & William HAMILTON. Maybe Joseph had died by the 1839 marr. of Margaret. Elleanor & Samuel FINLAY emmigrated to New Zealand 1862. My Grandfather apparently used to say that the family came from Scotland originally. This was probably the " Plantation " of the 1600's. Looking for any information Mary Legarth New Zealand.

In 1865 they were enticed by a land company to go and resettle in the Eastern townships of Quebec to the Southeast of Sherbrooke, Compton County, in the towns of Randboro, East Clifton (called Clifton de St. Isadore today), and Johnville. This is right on the VT/NH border with Quebec. James and Mary had the following children 1.
