    1. Fighting Scots?
    2. cbeachy
    3. In the 1750's the King of England send a large army of men to Virginia under the leadership of General Edwin Braddock. Their goal was to remove the French from Fort Duquesne (now Pittsburgh). Braddock and his troops followed the British guidelines for war and most were killed by the Indians just before they reached Fort Duquesne. General Braddock was one of the dead. My Jonathan Hamilton shows up shortly after that war in what is now Bedford County, PA. In 1787 Hamilton buys a large tract of land along with this group of men/friends: Thomas Lazier, Archibald Casteel, Amos Dickens, Michael Murphy, William Perdew, William Hawkins and John Rubye. Broker for this land was Thomas Beall of Samuel who definitely came from Scotland. Are any of you historical buffs with an interest in this FRENCH AND INDIAN WAR know if any Scots marched with Braddock and if any Hamiltons were with Braddock? Thank you very much for any information. Connie Hamilton Beachy

    2. Dear Robert I am intrigued with your posting to the Hamilton website. I am looking for a Dr. James Hamilton, born 13 Sept. 1797 in Douglas Lanarkshireaccording to his tombstone in Dundas Ontario. I have seen a listing for a birth in East Kilbride LKS for a James son of John, Sept 1797 but so far have not been able to find proof that this is my great great grandfather. Does any of this ring a bell with your research? I have been in touch with the Lanarkshire Family History Society and am awaiting results of some research that they are trying to do for me. 3. In the 1870 Census of the town of Beach Creek, Greene County, Indiana, household 224, we find a 35 year old Martha J. Burks, born in Indiana. In the same household are four Ranard children, aged 15 to 8, and in a neighboring household we find a fifth, Jane, aged 18. From this enumeration and your family data I would surmise that Martha Jane Hamilton married second David Burks, twenty years senior, after the death of her husband Eli. The timing is right (perhaps 1863, since the youngest child is 8) for this perhaps to be a Civil War death. Perhaps you can research this matter and get back later.
