Word was sent to this place that it would arrive here in about 3 hours. About 100 horsemen went out about 3 miles to meet and escort the "Pony" to town. Flags were stretched across J street and an immense concourse of people lined the street. About half past 5 a gun on the Plaza announced the arrival of the "Pony." Down they came, horsemen in the rear at a furious speed. Everybody rushed for the Express office, where a band of music was stationed, who struck up "Hail Columbia." As soon as the "Pony" came in sight, 3 cheers were given for Wm. HAMILTON, the rider. The Express was then immediately taken to the steamer Antelope which was detained here until the Express arrived.

Hi Kim, Yes, I just read allot of the Hamilton History on the website, it's very interesting. It could have been relatives of our John Stuart, but I don't have the proof yet. When he came to the states as a child, it makes it twice as hard to trace. HAMILTON who lived in Mille Roches, Stormont, Ontario, Canada. He died on 18 June 1847 by accidental drowning in the St. Lawrence River at Cornwall, Stormont County, Ontario, Canada. He was employed as a teacher and as a merchant. He co-owned with his father-in law (Hector Manson) or helped to run a tavern / inn in Milles Roches called 'Morgan's Inn'. He married Isabel "Eliza" Manson, daughter of Hector & Eleanor (Campbell) Manson on 6 November 1834 at Trinity Anglican Church in Cornwall, Stormont, Ontario, Canada . Isabel "Eliza" Manson was born 18 September 1811 in Mille Roches, Stormont Co, Ontario, Canada and died on 12 November 1892 in Cornwall, Stormont, Ontario, Canada. After William's death, she married James Milroy. Any information or even 'geusses' would be very helpful!! Thanks! Maggie Barron Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

I don't have any information on him at all other than the fact that he had a daughter named Eleanor. Eleanor Campbell was born about 1780 in New York state and died 1 February 1873 in Mille Roches, Stormont County, Ontario, Canada. She married Hector Manson, son of Thomas & Elizabeth (Walker) Manson on 17 March 1806 at St. Andrew's Church in Williamstown, Glengarry County, Ontario, Canada. I was always wondering whether my Daniel Campbell is the one who was married to Engeltie "Elizabeth" Angelina Bradt and lived in Schenectady.....but that's so far only speculation as I'm not sure whether that Daniel Campbell was a Loyalist. Any information or even 'geusses' would be very helpful!! Thanks! Maggie Barron Ottawa, Ontario, Canad
