    1. Welcome David!! A roll call is a great idea!

    3. Hi, I've hit it big before in a roll call. I'm all for one on the Halverson List! Here's my information: My great-grandparents, who went by the names Martin and Gurine Martin in America, said on censuses that they emigrated to the U.S. from Norway about 1889-90. On most documents, the name Halverson/Halvorsen is also used as a surname for one or both, almost interchangeably, but a little moreso as Gurine's maiden name. Sometime after Martin's death in 1899, Gurine began going by Gurine Martinson. Their six children also were born in Norway and came to the states -- some, they said, in 1887, others, 1888 and 1889. They were (in America) -- Samuel, born about 1870, he never married, lived in Elizabeth until his death in 1932; Lena (Lina) born about 1873, she married Chris Gay (Hans Christian Gay), and they lived first in Elizabeth, N.J., then in Newark; Margaret (who seems to have been Magda Marie Hansine in Norway), was born next, also in the 1870s, married George P. Heiss in Elizabeth, N.J., and lived the rest of her life there. Agnes, born in the late 1870s, married Luther Opdyke in Elizabeth, N.J., and also lived there the rest of her life. George was born about 1879 or 1880 and seems to have lived in New York most or all of the time. He married a woman named Sarah Ann, who was from England, according to the 1910 census. They were living in Yonkers, N.Y., at the time, with George's younger brother, Thomas. Both, at that time, were using the surname Halverson. Thomas, however, had been going by Thomas Martin in Elizabeth between the time he arrived there (sometime in the 1890s) and 1907 or 08, when he and his wife, the former Mildred Grote, moved to Yonkers. Thomas is my grandfather. At first, he and George seem to have spelled their name Halverson. Later, it changed to Halvorsen. Thomas and Mildred separated, and relatives raised some of their children, including my father, also named Thomas (Alfred was either his first or middle named; it varied during the years). I have names of many of the offspring of the six children. My grandfather's children were George, Myrtle, Thomas and Edward "Eddie." I never knew any of them, except my father, but I have recently located all of them and all of their children. George has a daughter, named Dorothy, who lives in New Jersey. Myrtle, who was widowed after having two sons, Walter, and Edward, had two more sons by a later marriage, also Walter and Elwood. Eddie had a son, Robert. It would take too long to list my father's children -- that's a whole story in itself -- but he had eight natural children, two of them named after him, a son Tommy and me, a daughter named Tommi. George and Sarah Ann Halverson/Halvorsen had at least two sons, George and Raymond. Lena had at least three children, Hildor, Henry (Louis) and Mildred. Margaret's children were Mary (Marie), George Jr., Mabel, Ethel and another, I think, whose name slips my mind. Agnes had Edna, James and John. I'll quit here. I tried to list as much as I could in case someone can make a connection. Hoping for the best -- Tommi
