Hi Listers, I'm new on this list. I've been searching for a year and a half and have found MANY family members. Here are my main names: Martin and Gurine (Halverson/Halvorsen) Martin -- emigrated from Norway about 1889 Their children: Samuel Martin(son) Lena Halverson Magda Marie Hansine Martinson, later was Margaret "Maggie" Agnes Martinson George Halverson/Halvorsen Thomas Martin, then Halverson, then Halvorsen All came to the U.S. from Norway between 1887 and 1890. I have never been able to spot them on the Norway censuses or other searches. I think they must have had different names in Norway. Thomas was my grandfathere. I've seen my great-grandfather's name listed as Martin Martin, Hans Martin Halverson, Martin Halverson, etc. It's very frustrating because I don't really know where the Halverson/Halvorsen comes in. My grandfather lived in New Jersey as Thomas Martin until he and his wife (Mildred Grote) had two children, George and Myrtle. They then moved to Yonkers, New York, and were Thomas and Mildred Halverson, all of a sudden. Thomas' brother, George, and his family were also living with them. As far as I can tell George always went by Halverson or Halvorsen. He was married to Sarah Ann, and they had at least two children, George and Raymond. They moved to Cornwall, New York, and that's the last I have on them. My family lived mostly in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and the surrounding small towns. My grandfather, Thomas, died there in 1941, still using the name Halvorsen. He never went back to Martin. If any of this rings any bells for anyone, I'd love to know it. Thanks, Tom
