I've traced my family back to Trondheim, Norway (Grandparents) via immigration into Canada then to Minnesota, U.S.A. My brothers spell our last name two different ways..Halverson & Halvorsen, hence the ? mark after the 3 spellings.

My great great grandfather, Olaus, came from Norway in 1886 and settled in Quebec. From here the family settled throughout Ontario although there are several aunts and uncles that I have no idea where they went. Their names were Jane, Therese, George, Andrew and Patrick. No connection, at least not at this point but who knows where the family tree starts. My research is on the MOSS family, from North Carolina, to South Carolina (late 1700's - early 1800's), and to Missouri (mid 1800's) by way of the states between. Several years ago in the Historical Library in York, SC, I obtained several pages from CHAPTER 3. HALVERSON-MOSS ANCESTRAL FAMILIES. Unfortunately, I didn't ask for the entire document, and do not have the name of the person who wrote it. I have been unable to locate the document at any other place, and the York facility can no longer find it in their records. If there is anyone who might know anything about this record, I'd be happy to know (a) where I can obtain a complete copy, and (b) who was the researcher/author of the work. One person listed was Dorothy (Dora) Moss Halverson, born 1889, who died in August 1988 in Lee's Summit, Missouri. She was the daughter of Thomas Henry Moss, who was the son of William Horatio (Hiram) Moss. Hiram was the son of Joshua Moss and Jane (Jennie) Houser, and Joshua was a son of Joseph Moss and Ellender (Nellie) Sandlin, of York and Cherokee Counties, South Carolina. I would be ecstatically happy to have any information pertaining to this record, and would be glad to exchange records I have of the family to anyone interested. Just thought I would add my HALVORSEN's to the Digest, also! Searching for info on the HALVORSEN surname from Rygge in Ostføld fylke. 1. Hans Anton HALVORSEN, born 1858 (?) at the farm Braaten in Rygge. (Married to Gina ANDERSDATTER Vollebraten, b. 1860 in Rade.) Father of Hans: Halvor HANSEN of Rygge. Hans HALVORSEN had sons Halvor, Andrew and Martin. Daughters Mathea (my grandmother, b. 1889 in Glemminge), Anne and Marie. Sketchy information, I know...but if anyone has any other info on these Halvorsens, I would love to swap any info I have with you! Happy hunting, Mary Ryon
