Born 8/9/1969 - one month after his father Olaus & mother Elen arrived in Wisconsin from Haldorshavn (Sør-Trondelag) Norway. They settled near Rice Lake, Wisconsin where the farm still is. He and his father Olaus had a falling out, and he left sometime before 1898. They heard from him once or twice, the last time from Baker City, Oregon, then never again. He had 15 siblings, 8 of whom lived to adulthood. We wonder if he went to the Klondike, or if he settled in Washington state? Anyone out there with a Halvorson relative with that birthdate??

Hi Listers, I'm new on this list. I've been searching for a year and a half and have found MANY family members. Here are my main names: Martin and Gurine (Halverson/Halvorsen) Martin -- emigrated from Norway about 1889 Their children: Samuel Martin(son) Lena Halverson Magda Marie Hansine Martinson, later was Margaret "Maggie" Agnes Martinson George Halverson/Halvorsen Thomas Martin, then Halverson, then Halvorsen All came to the U.S. from Norway between 1887 and 1890. I have never been able to spot them on the Norway censuses or other searches. I think they must have had different names in Norway. Thomas was my grandfathere. I've seen my great-grandfather's name listed as Martin Martin, Hans Martin Halverson, Martin Halverson, etc. It's very frustrating because I don't really know where the Halverson/Halvorsen comes in. My grandfather lived in New Jersey as Thomas Martin until he and his wife (Mildred Grote) had two children, George and Myrtle. They then moved to Yonkers, New York, and were Thomas and Mildred Halverson, all of a sudden. Thomas' brother, George, and his family were also living with them. As far as I can tell George always went by Halverson or Halvorsen. He was married to Sarah Ann, and they had at least two children, George and Raymond. They moved to Cornwall, New York, and that's the last I have on them. My family lived mostly in Elizabeth, New Jersey, and the surrounding small towns. My grandfather, Thomas, died there in 1941, still using the name Halvorsen. He never went back to Martin. If any of this rings any bells for anyone, I'd love to know it. Thanks, Tom

Check with the funeral homes in the area and ask if they have a record of Marie. Be nice and give them time to find it, ask if they would like to have you write or fax them your request. I would guess it has to be a funeral home in Willmar. Start there and check other towns close by. You can find out a lot, usually more than a death certificate. Also check http://genforum.genealogy.com/norway/messages/3990.html you might find it interesting it covers some of the Cosmos, MN, Halverson's, Halvorson's. My great grandfather Andrew Halvorson had a son Nils Halverson and we always spelled it with an e. So keep an open mind in that area. Good Luck, Judy
