These are the Lists: Bundesland-L covers *TODAY* Germany as established in 1945. North German Confederation lasted from about 1840s to 1871. Alsace-Lorraine covers just that region that is now in France. Prussia-Roots covers all that has been in the Kingdom of Prussia and specific origins within Prussia still unknown . Bavaria-L covers Bavaria. Baden-Wurttemberg-L covers Baden and Wurttemberg. Pfalz-L covers the Palatinate region. (Anthony Hallman came from this area.) Schleswig-Holstein-L covers that state. Trier-Roots covers southern Rheinland, Saarland and Luxembourg. Hesse-L covers Hessen. Posen-L covers the Province of Posen. German-Kingdoms-L covers the principalities and other kingdoms within what was the German Empire before the confederation, not including Bavaria, Baden-Wurttemberg, and other places already mentioned. Poland-Roots covers Poland and the Polish throughout the world. This gives you some idea of which List may be the most helpful to you in your research in Germany. Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence? * * * * * * * * * * * * Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they? .Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, of faith and well educated. But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured. .Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags. Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward. .Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer,Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton. .Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed him. At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt. John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart. Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates. Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution. These were not wild eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education. They had security, but they valued liberty more. Standing tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged: "For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of God, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor." They gave you and me a free and independent America. The history books never told you a lot of what happened in the Revolutionary War. We didn't just fight the British. We were British subjects at that time and we fought our own government! Some of us take these liberties so much for granted... We shouldn't. So, take a couple of minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank God for these patriots. It's not much to ask for the price they paid.............. And also wonder where the men of HONOR are today.

Do you have a birth date for Sophia or an indication in your records of who she married so that we can see if it is the same one? Do you know if Joseph Hallman and Margaret Fry lived in that same area, around Montgomery County? This would be really exciting if it is the same person, thanks! I do not have any Reiff surnames in my direct line that I have found so far, however, the Reiff surname is quite prevalent among the Gottshalks. If you have not seen this document, you will find quite a few Reiffs in it: http://www.nayzak.com/~jgott/family/gott1924.txt . I don't see any Hallmans but maybe there is some other surname which connects the two. Karen

    3. Dear Faith,         Thanks so much for getting back with me. I realized last night when I was about to go to sleep that I had failed to give the one important thing that might help find any information on my grandmother: where Agnes was born. Here's what we know: She (Agnes) was born in Revere, Mass. When, we do not know. I asked my mother and she said that since she was just a little girl, somehow, she never got her Mother's birthday. I have contacted my Aunt, but she has not responded. I don't remember if I told you or not, but she was married to my grandfather, Herbert Tilley. My Aunt's birthday is in December. My Mom says that she thinks that Agnes died either in December, 1937, or a few days later, in Janury1938. What I did, is go down to the library, here, and get the address of Vital statistics, in/near Revere, (Boston) and I am going to send them a check, on Monday. (They charge for every 10 years search.) Hopefully, a birth certificate will hold the key! It should have HER parent's name, right? My grandfather was born in 1905, so I am going to suggest that they search within the 10 year span of 1900 -1910. I wish I knew who her parents were. Then I could begin searching backwards to put the family tree together. This is what I know, that Mom shared with me: When Agnes died, her mother, which Mom says was named "Annie" went to California to live with Agnes' brother Henry. Agnes has another brother, Charles. Also a sister whose name is May(sp?) Mae(sp?) Maye(sp?) So there is a Henry Hallman, and a Charles Hallman who are her brothers. I do not know if they are still alive or not. My mother will be 70 in August. If my grandfather were still alive, he would be 94 years old, so doubtfully any of them are still alive, either, unless they were much younger. If she was the same age as my grandfather, then she would have been around 32 years old when she passed way. Thanks so much, and I hope this helps. When I get more info, I will pass it along to you.     3. I am looking for information about two of my female ancestors who both lived in or near the Montgomery County area of Pennsylvania in the mid 1800s. One is Lovinia Hallman b. 18 July 1806, d. June 6 1892. She was the wife of Peter Godshalk, and the mother of Reiff Gottshalk, my great-great grandfather. Reiff was born in Lower Salford, PA. Lovinia is my 3G grandmother. I do not know if Reiff was their only child. The other is Sophia Hallman, Reiff's mother-in-law. Sophia Hallman was born Jan 5, 1817, and died 24 February 1895. She was the wife of Israel Scholl, b. May 21, 1815, d. Sept. 28, 1890. Their daughter was Louise (Louisa) Scholl, Reiff's wife - b. 6 Sept 1842, E. Perkiomen, Mtgy County - d. Dec 15 1921 in Phila. Sophia is also my 3G grandmother.
