    1. LIST HOSTESS IS BACK!
    2. Faith Hutchings
    3. Hi, all, I haven't had time to more than go in and out the door here at my new apartment since Move Monday. Today, the carpet cleaner is doing the carpet in my mobile home, so I had to stay out of there. I can't believe I have so much STUFF. I say that every time I move! This afternoon, I approached the computer with much trepidation. Here's "dk. blue" now where does it plug into the CPU? The color coded plugs worked! I got everything plugged in, I thought, & then "what's this plug for?" Oh, yes, I forgot the keyboard. Now, I'm ready to turn on the computer. Wonder if I'll blow the whole thing? Nope, I didn't! It all came in fine with 47 digest messages. I feel so proud of myself! I'm definitely not a computer technician so if I can do it, just about anyone else can, too. Saved myself 50 bucks. Thanks for all your messages of "luck on my move." I'll try to get back to you all before long. I should be fairly settled in by the weekend. I have a prospective buyer coming to see my mobile home tomorrow. Wish me luck on selling it fast. Thanks, Faith Hutchings Your List Hostess faith@verdenet.com

    2. Hallman
    3. Hi, Last night I asked for some assistance and I inadvertently asked for a look up on the wrong individuals. Sorry. Here's the correct request: I just found out some information about my family and I am hoping that someone out there will be able to find a connection with the following line: Henry Sumerrow b. South Carolina His wife - Barbara Henry b. South Carolina Their daughter: Margaret Elizabeth Sumerro b. 8/23/1841, South Carolina, d. 5/4/1916 near Ben Lomond, Arkansas. She married Jacob Hallman. Their children are: Lee C. Hallman b. 1865 Maggie Georgiana Hallman b. 1867 Will Hallman b. Ukn David Franklin Hallman b. 6/10/1856 Also, does anyone have access to a Sevier County, Arkansas Census and would you be willing to do a look up? If so, could you please check Jacob and Margaret Hallman on any of the following years: 1850, 1860, 1870 or 1880. Thank you in advance for any help. Ramsey Placentia, CA

    1. NOTICE FROM LIST HOSTESS
    2. Faith Hutchings
    3. Hi, I'll be off-line for a couple days while I am moving to my "Retirement Community" apartment. I color-coded all my plugs for printer, scanner, monitor, and CPU so I wouldn't have to pay a Computer Technician to "set it up again." Hope this works! We'll see. If it doesn't, I may be off-line a little longer. Meanwhile, keep thinking about how to celebrate our First Anniversary. I've received a few suggestions already. Would you all like another "Get-Acquainted Week?" Another suggestion received..is to describe how you've met a "cousin you didn't know existed before" through this list. That's something that could also be added to a "Get Acquainted"message. Get your thinking caps on and have fun! Faith Hutchings Your List Hostess faith@verdenet.com My e-mail will be the same after I move.

    1. Henry Hallman
    2. On a message board where I had posted an inquiry, a gentleman recently posted in response. My message: "Looking for the parents of Henry S Hallman, born 1819 in Evansburg, Montgomery Co, PA; lived in central PA in Dansville. Died 1899. He married Mary Ann Heddins." This was his reply to mine: "I'll check with my mother. She's a Hallman - a direct descendant of Antonius Heilman, who settled in Skippack/Evansburg in 1718/19. There is a Henry Hallman in her family tree, but he was born in 1785. He could have had a son named Henry (my mother's great grandfather was Lewis Hallman, born in 1816). Perhaps your Henry was a brother to Lewis. I'll see what I can learn." and, his more general post-- "I am also a descendant of Antonius Heilman and have some names and other info that might be of use. He was born in Kleinniedesheim, Germany, in 1671 and came to Skippack in 1718/19 with his wife, Mary Salome. I visited Kleinniedesheim a couple years ago - a very quaint farming village in vineyard country just south of Worms. The family tree from him to my mother is Johanne, b. 7-16-1711; John, b. 11-12-1747; Henry, b. 11-16-1785; Lewis, b. 1-29-1816; Dallas, b. 1-12-1849; and Alphonso, b. 10-17-1876. My mother, Laura Hallman Henry, was his daughter; he had no sons. If anyone can expand this family tree sideways, please do so." I have written to him, but no feedback yet. I asked if he was aware of the Hallman list. Has anyone seen data on this family of Henry b 1785? Edie

    3. Any Hallmans with Illinois ancestors? This website also tells you how to order copies of the records. They have a link to land records. www.sos.state.il.us/depts/archives/arc_home.html Look under the "Search Our Online Databases." You can just put in a surname. I put in "Hallman" in the "groom" space and it brought up a few Hallmans, but more Hallmanns. Faith

    1. OCTOBER IS OUR FIRST ANNIVERSARY!
    2. Faith Hutchings
    3. Hi, Hallmans, October is our first anniversary month! We started this list just one year ago. I'd like some ideas on how we can celebrate our anniversary. We've had a couple "Get Acquainted Weeks" during the year. Those are nice for the "newbies" but maybe some of you "oldies" might not want another one?? One thing I'd like to know is how many are still on our list who were here at the beginning in Oct/Nov 1998? Hallmans seem to come and go so it would be interesting to know how many have "hung in there." We started out with about 11-17 and we have about 50 subscribers now. Still not a lot but, "Quality is better than quantity!" Do PLEASE send your input to the list on how we can celebrate. Faith Hutchings Your List Hostess faith@verdenet.com

    2. Faith Hutchings
    3. Hi, Hallmans, Diane Kurtz, ListOwner for the NYFingerLakes mail list, posted this message below, today, on her list. If you are traveling through Virginia, it would be worth a stop at this Museum. Faith Hutchings Your List Hostess faith@verdenet.com In Staunton,VA we stopped at the Frontier Cultural Museum. I had never heard of it and happened to see it in a guidebook. If you haven't been there and are in the area, it is well worth a stop. Farmhouses and outbuildings were dismantled in Europe and brought to the museum and painstakingly reassembled. There is a farm from Palatinate Germany; Ulster, Ireland; and England from the early 1700s and a VA farm circa 1850. The purpose of the museum is to show the life that our immigrant ancestors lived in Europe and how that translated to the new generations in America. I've been to many "living museums" and love them all, but this one deeply affected me. My ancestors were Palatines from Germany and came to this country in 1738 - so it was very easy to "see" them living on the German farm. The 1850 VA farmhouse had many similarities to old houses and farms in the Finger Lakes area where they relocated circa 1823. The interpretors were well-skilled and very informative.

    3. Faith, Thank you for the great website you sent today. I know this isn't Hallman business, but I found a document of George Washington's showing him holding an indenture for Thomas McPherson and his wife, who had come from Scotland. We knew about this and had tried to find proof but didn't ever expect to actually see a copy of the document. Thank you again. 3. I am passing this along from another list. There are many Umstead lines in the Hallman family. I don't know if this particular family is part of the Hallman lines. History THE UMSTEAD FAMILY Thu, 23 Sep 1999 14:37:04 -0700 (PDT) From: "Roni" <tbell@dct.com> To: PACHESTE-L@rootsweb.com ITEM #23764 October 26, 1869 VILLAGE RECORD History THE UMSTEAD FAMILY - In The Brandywine Manor Church Yard, the longest row of graves bear the name of Umstead upon the stones. The Umsteads were among the earliest settlers of the township. Side by side lie John Umstead and wife, and side by side with them lie their nine sons - Thomas, Philip, John, Joseph, Ephraim, Simon, Jacob, Enos and Francis - and with them lie a large number of grandchildren. Side by side they lived and labored through life, and in death they lie together. They were a remarkable family, in youth active, energetic and intelligent, they were the stuff that has made Chester county what it is. Most of the family lived to middle age, and some to an advanced age, growing up living and dying near their boyhoods' home. It is rare that a family so numerous in our county with the western states offering new homes have been buried in one graveyard. Philip and John were the two last surviving members: the first named died June 27, 1869, in the 81st year of his age; and the latter on September 17, 1869, in the 63d year of his age. A number of the descendants of this worthy family still reside in the neighborhood.
