Dick, Would you consider sending me the list of your grandfather and his siblings. I'd like to see if my line happens to coincide with you at that point. None of the people you listed are in my line, but I'm wondering if I might be from one of you grandfathers brothers or sisters. To All Hallmans: Hi, I'm Dick Hallman, a list member since inception, and it's been totally worthwhile reading all the comments and e-mails and seeing how widespread the Hallman family really is. I am currently living in Las Vegas with my wife Ruth and we've been here in Sun City, a retirement community, for almost six years. We're originally from No. Illinois, Aurora, to be exact and have lived in Wisconsin, California, Utah and now Nevada. We have two daughters that are living in Ventura Cty. California and five grandchildren. Our Hallmans were those that migrated to Canada in 1825 and the line was as follows: Anthony Hallman +Mary Salome Henry Hallman +Anna Maria Berson Benjamin Hallman +Elizabeth Detweiler Joseph Hallman +Susannah Clemmer Benjamin C. Hallman +Lucy Ann Eby Addison Eby Hallman +Annie Foster Watson Eby Hallman +Edith Chase Most of the information which I've assembled on the Hallmans has come from the H.S. Hallman book which he did in the early 1900's and from the Joan Hallman update of 1991, which was full of information on my grandfathers 7 brothers and 2 sisters. Our Hallman line today continues through my cousin Kenneth's two sons, Jack and Bill Hallman, who live in Indiana and Ohio. It appears that our "tree" has been pretty fully identified and we aren't looking for "lost" members. However, I would be interested in more information on my family when they were in Berlin, (Kitchener), Ont.in the 1873-1900 period. My grandfather migrated from Canada to Aurora, Illinois just before 1900 to join his uncle Jay Eby in the candy making business. He was eventually a part owner of the business which evolved into a candy and tobacco company know as Eby Youngen & Co. which he retired from in about 1945. The family consisted of my father, Watson and his two brothers, Arthur and Walter, and a sister Rhea. Now, there aren't any Hallmans left in the old home town. Best regards, Dick Hallman
Hi Bill, I just noticed that we are from what would appear to be the same line. Your Jacob who married an Elizabeth is also my Jacob who married Margaret Elizabeth Summerow - I think. Hello, My name is Ramsey Hallman. I was born in 1953 in Farmerville, Lousiana. In 1988 I moved to California. This is where I met my wife. We have two wonderful sons John (7) and Matthew (4) and we live in Southern California. I have been looking for what seems like an eternity for any Hallman ties, but like so many I continue to hit a brick wall. My father was Hopkins Burley Hallman, b. 7/3/1911 in Arkansas. He disappeared from my life when I was only 2 or 3 and we have never seen nor heard from him since. This of course, makes the search that much more difficult. My mother has some information on his family, which may not be completely accurate. The following is all that I have been able to come up with. I would love to hear from anyone who knows of this line or anyone with suggestions on my search. Descendants of Jacob Hallman 1 Jacob Hallman b: January 16, 1819 d: November 10, 1890 Burial: Wright's Chapel Cemetery, Ben Lomond, Arkansas + Margaret Elizabeth Sumerrow b: August 23, 1841 d: May 04, 1916 Burial: Wright's Chapel Cemetery, Ben Lomond, Arkansas 2 Will Hallman 2 David Franklin Hallman b: June 10, 1856 in North Carolina d: April 27, 1930 in Arkansas Burial: Wright's Chapel Cemetery, Ben Lomond, Arkansas +Brosonia Woodrow Stinson b: July 18, 1858 in Georgia d: March 11, 1902 in Arkansas Burial: Wright's Chapel Cemetery, Ben Lomond, Arkansas 3 John Stinson Hallman +Ruby ? 3 Betty B. I am pleased with the Hallman response to our Get Acquainted week! I think this will be interesting to both Newbies and Oldies on the Hallman list. I am your Listowner (as you know, I prefer List Hostess). I am single, a retired Secretary/Bookkeeper, living in the Verde Valley of North Central Arizona. This is my third time to live in Arizona I first came to Phoenix from Michigan in 1955. I worked in the Business office at the Republic & Gazette Newspapers (as it was called back then) for a few years. When my father died (in Florida), I brought my mother back to Arizona to live with me. After she passed away in 1962, I moved to Calif. to be closer to my brother & family. In 1971, I took a 2 month trip to Europe and England & when I returned I moved back again to Arizona (Prescott). I worked in the Dept. of Health Services for Arizona State in Prescott and then in Phoenix. In the late 70's, my brother & his family had moved to Western Washington. They loved it up there & talked me into coming to Washington State. That's where I lived until I retired & moved to Arizona in 1993. I came up here to the Verde Valley in 1997. Just recently, I moved to the Verde Valley Manor Retirement Village. After waiting for 3-1/2 yrs to get in, I hope to spend many happy years here! I was born in MI & lived there until I was nineteen. I have also lived for short periods of time in the states of Florida, Pennsylvania & Rhode Island, but am a true Westerner for more than one-half of my life. As you can see, I was a Wanderer. I still love to travel! My favorite country is England. I have been there four times and hope to visit it again at least once or twice more. I guess you can call me an Anglophile! I "work" part-time as a Senior Companion. I have five elderly, or handicapped, ladies that I help by driving them (one each day) to their doctors' appointments, shopping, banks, etc. It keeps me busy and is better than sitting on a couch watching TV. When not working, I am more apt to be on my computer, though, rather than watching TV, working on genealogy! My Hallman lineage: Anthony & Mary Salome HALLMAN. Henry and Anna Maria (BERSON) HALLMAN Benjamin and Anna or Fronica (GOTWALS) HALLMAN Benjamin and Elizabeth (DETWEILER) HALLMAN who migrated to Ontario, Canada in 1825 Wendell and Nancy (SCHLICHTER) HALLMAN Rev. Henry S. and Maria (ROSENBERGER) HALLMAN Grace I. HALLMAN and Harvey M. HUTCHINGS My parents. My mother moved to Michigan after she married my father, who was a "Michigander." That's about it. I don't have any "Brick Walls" in my Hallman ancestry, thankfully! Faith Hutchings faith@verdenet.com
Hello everyone on the list! I'm Howard C. Hallman i live in Lancaster,Texas was born in Brownsville, Alabama about 18 miles north of Tuscaloosa i have been doing the hunt and hope thing for about 12 years! I'm through the Jacob Hallman and Elizabeth Weaver line by the way of William Wesley Hallman and Celia Ann Oswalt, John Alton Hallman and Permela "Jennie" Virginia Snyder , John Wesley Hallman and Ella Jane Lambert, Perry Clinton Hallman and Myrtle Sanford. I'm the oldest of 7 children.. I'm retired age 58. I retired for Southwestern Bell Telephone co with 29 year of service at age 55 and have been doing a lot of keyboard time looking for connections of the different line of Hallman\Holmans on the web. I have over 18,000 names in my data base on the Hallmans and Sanfords and will help any one i can with what i have all i ask is help in return... Howard C. Hallman
My husband descends from Jacob HALLMAN and Elizabeth WEAVER. His grandmother, who stills lives in the Tuscaloosa area is named Ruby D. HALLMAN. My biggest problem with this family is Jacob David and Mariah SNIDER's children. I have been given 3 sets of them and all different. Such confusion. We live in Alabama. We have one child and another on the way. I'm really enjoying this new hobby of finding our ancestors. I just don't have alot of time for it. But these lists sure do help. Phoebe
I vote yah for getting acquainted celebration. I'm very new @ researching family history on computers, so lots of times I know what to research but working with the system gives me trouble. I'm getting there slowly! Im from Tx. borned and raised. Married 14 yrs. w/2 boys 11 & 16. I'm a Real Estate Agent. All of my family is from Arkansas. Did'nt know much about them. Made trips to cemeteries & enjoyed all the info. Thats what got me started. Lately seems I've run into a brick wall. My g-fathers mothers name was Mallye Elizabeth Hallman, her father- LeeRoy Coatsworth Hallman born Oct. 1855, his father was John Hallman who was married to Harriet Linhardt, buried in Lincoln, N.C. LeeRoy married his cousin Barbara Georgiana Hallman and her parents were Jacob Hallman born 1/16/1819 and Margeret Elizabeth Summerow. Jacobs father was Issac Hallman,he married Mary Anthony on 7/13/1811. Still searching for John's bloodline. Just another cousin-Tonja
Hello, Hallmans, Since everyone else is posting, I guess I will, too. I am very new to genealogy and have only been researching since May, this year. I think I joined the Hallman list in mid summer, sometime. I have really enjoyed the fun I have had interacting with various groups, but most of all, this list. I have come to the conclusion that it must be a family thing!! I am also happily married. My husband is the pastor of our church, and I lead the praise and worship. When I have time, I am on this computer, looking for, and exploring my leads. We have 2 daughters, and a son, as well as 2 grandchildren. This summer I had fully intended to finish the quilt I had begun a couple years ago. Then I discovered searching for my family, and so some of my other interests have sort of taken a back seat for now. My mother has a very great desire to know who her family was. I am trying as hard as I can to get as much as possible together to put in a book and give it to her for Christmas this year. (Yeah, right, does it ever have an END!??) I have not found out as much as you all have, sad to say, about my Hallmans. When I read a few minutes ago how one of you looked for months, before you found yours, I know how you must have rejoiced, and so will I when I have found the "connection"!! Here's what I DO have: My grandmother, Agnes Louise (Hallman) Tilley. b. Feb. 17, 1909, Revere, MA. (Agnes has two brother, Henry Ernest, b. Mar 20, 1913, in Revere, Ma. and Charles Daniel, b. Aug. 5, 1915, also in Revere, MA. Mae, was the older sister, born before Agnes, and I have no information on her at all. G/Grandfather, Daniel B. (or P.) Hallman, b. ?, in South Boston, Mass. (Married to Annie Dalrymple, b. ?, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.) Am looking forward to being here and getting to know you all. Hopefully I will find that some of you are in fact, MY COUSINS! God Bless, Linda
The response to the voting on Get Acquainted Week has been a loud "Yes" so go to it, now! Feel free to add your "brick wall" to your get acquainted messages and lineages. Maybe some of our newer members have just the information you need. Faith Hutchings Your List Hostess faith@verdenet.com
I voted yes, but after I read some of the other votes for yes, and what they wrote I thought of something to add, also. I belong to the Jackson list and the NFLD Lists, as well as the Nova Scotia list. They recently did a "roll call" and everyone sent in updated info, which we all pretty well have done, but then then none of them did the get acquainted thing. It brought the list together and seemed to cause each one to be on the lookout for surnames or bits and pieces for others on the list. I found something on the Newfoundland list, which had been posted on the Nova Scotia list. I sent it right to the one I knew was looking for it. They thanked me, but turns out they had info on one of my lines and lives where the info can be had, which will really be helpful, down the line...(no pun intended) This is a great list and our list hostess deserves a hardy round of applause! Linda
I vote along with the other "Yes" votes. I was completely shocked when I saw the name just a moment go of Howard Hallman. My mother's late Uncle, on her mother's side, was named Howard Hallman and I was named after him. My mother also pegged me with a middle name, after her father's brother, her Uncle Roy. So my initials are HRH, of course any good subject of the Crown Heads of England know those initials stand for "His (or Her) Royal Highness", a long standing joke in our family. I've been a member of this Hallman List now for about a year, having found Cousin Faith on the internet by accident in October '98..... enjoy it immensely. I have found long lost relatives, and neighbours that are related, through the late Joan Hallman's "Hallman Family History in Canada". Also found a family connection with a long time family friend in the Schlichter line, not only on the Hallman side of our family, but on the Heckendorn side also. Heckendorn's and Hallman's have been joined together a few times in our Family History. My great Grandfather Henry S. Hallman, his mother having been the former Nancy Schlichter, compiled and printed the 'original' "History of the Hallman Family in Canada" after the first family reunion in 1905, held in Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario. It was reported in the "Berlin News Record" of the day, "that between 600 and 700 Hallmans and blood and marriage connections, gathered on Thursday, June 22, 1905 in Schneider's Grove, Berlin, for the first Hallman Family Reunion in Canada." My nine generations of the Hallman connection are: I Anthony Hallman cir. 1671-1759 m. Mary Salome ?; II Henry Hallman m. Anna Maria Bersons; III Benjamin Hallman m. Anna (Fronica) Gotwals; IV Benjamin Hallman 1783-1869 m. Elizabeth Detweiler; V Wendall Hallman (Rev.) 1827-1910 m. Nancy Schlichter; VI Henry S. Hallman (Rev.) 1859-1932 m. Maria Rosenberger; VII Nancy Ellen Hallman 1887-1968 m. Harry E. Geach; VIII Theo Geach 1916 m. Nelson Heckendorn; IX.....and that's me! I'm happily married to my wife Colleen of 43 years come November 2nd, and we have five children, the eldest is our daughter who is a Reverend with the Anglican Church, four sons and four and one third grandchildren. I'm retired, a former nurseryman and landscape designer that became a mobile and radio disc jockey. Enjoy relief woodcarving as a hobby and am a novice at genealogy.
Yay or Nay? I definitely vote YAY, and look forward to it!!
My name is Lucy. I live in SE Texas. I have a husband, a dog and a cat and 9 grandchildren (about half of those are inherited, the other half are mine). I am one of those people that is obsessed with genealogy, working on it every chance I get and into the late hours every night, on whatever name happens to show me something that I can work with for the night. I started it about 25 years ago and basically have finished my own stuff but am working of it for friends now and other family members. Hallman is one of the lines belonging to my daughter-in-law. The HALLMAN that has me stumped is ancestors for Edwin Hallman b. between 1858/1888, d. 1851/1911 m. 1898-1900 to Mary Moser b. 1866/1889 d. 1911/1977 Children of Edwin and Mary: Dorothy, Rodney, Selma Addell, Thomas and FLORENCE b. 8 Feb 1912 Reading, PA, m. 4 Jan 1933 to Frank Clark LaPearl. Children of Frank and Florence: Auralea Estelle, Romaine Violet, Frank, Rodney Arthur, JoAnne Kay, Roy Clifford, Marie Dawn, Clark Frank, and Noreen Fayne LaPearl b. 11 Jul 1935 Reading, PA m. 18 May 1956 to Carl Edward Vann
