Author: pamandrogerchilds Surnames: Halligan McCarthy Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.halligan/239/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am keen to find the birth details and ancestors of Alexander Edward Halligan (Hallaghan) and Elizabeth McCarthy, who were married at St Matthews Anglican Church, Auckland, New Zealand on 17 August 1865. Alexander's birthplace is recorded on his death certificate as Ireland and I have found a birth record which might be his in Armagh (1836). However IGI sources say his birthplace was Swineford, Mayo about 1837. He was 52 when he died in Wanganui, NZ, on 3rd April 1889. Elizabeth's birthplace is shown as New Zealand on her death certificate but as no record has been found in BDM or Diocesan Archives I think she immigrated to NZ. Elizabeth was born about 1847 and died in Wanganui, NZ, on 31st March 1919, aged 72. According to their death records Alex's father was Thomas and Elizabeth's mother was Elizabeth.
