Your grandfather James' parents were Dominic Rowan and Ellen Dony. Dominic came from Kilmactigue, Ireland and Ellen came from Castlemartyr, County Cork. I am descended from Patrick Rowan (also spelled Rouane or Ruane early on.) I believe him to be Dominic's brother, but I can't say for sure. Patrick and all his children except one seem to have gone to New York in 1885. Dominc seems to have come to Dewsbury first and Patrick to have followed. I believe their parents were named Patrick and Winifred. They had a sister named Winifred who married a Halligan. What do you think?
