I have been waiting forever to make a connection with Rowans somewhere so I am just delighted! Thomas (b. 1854), Michael (b. 1856), Winifred (1860) John, Patrick, and James (1868) are all children of Patrick Rowan and Mary Griffin. They were all born in Dewsbury, Yorkshire. Mary Griffin Rowan seems to have died between 1868 and 1870. In 1870 Patrick Rowan, Sr. marries an Irishwoman named Jane Stoke in Dewsbury. I don't believe they have any children, although perhaps she was married before because there is a Fanny listed on the 1871 census who is 13, but she is not listed in the 1861 census, so she is probably Jane's from a previous marriage. My great-grandfather came to the United States in 1874. He went to White Haven, PA and married a woman named Ann McAndrews. I think the Rowans and the McAndrews are related in some fashion because I can't imagine how he wound up in a tiny town in PA. He moves to New York around 1880 and then Winifred and James move to New York in 1885. They lived about 10 blocks apart! My grandfather was Thomas W. Rowan also. He and Hugh Halligan were first cousins!
