Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IQh.2ACIB/123.1 Message Board Post: I think you should spend some time searching the English National Archives, it's free! http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/searchthearchives/ for references to him, they have GREAT indexing of miliary records. There are several databases on their site, the one with the miliary records is called DocumentsOnline. I did a quick search on that, and came up with: http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=4517419&queryType=1&resultcount=4 That lists a John Halligan who served in WWII, and a date of April 6, 1915 is in the file (although it doesn't specify what that date is, birthday makes sense). You can order the record online, pretty cheap too. Good luck from another Halligan decendant. Bill

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/IQh.2ACIB/67.1.2.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Pauline, I am so excited as is my cousin's son, Bill Tarr, who is also in communication with you! My grandfather was Francis Halligan (Frank). He was Hugh's older brother who died in his thirties. These Halligans were all lost to me because my mother was only a small child when her Dad died and we didn't have these connections. We just reconnected with my mom's first cousins (who she hadn't met in her lifetime!) and then learned the name Rowan (about two months ago). That set my cousin's son Bill (Frank Halligan married Marion Meinhard and had 4 children, Margaret, Francis, Arthur and Winefred). My mom is Francis and Bill's grandmother is Winefred Halligan, daughter of Frank and Marion. I cannot believe that we can get this far! It's so cool. I would love to know what town or village in Ireland these Rowans are from. I've been to Ireland twice this year and would love to go through the towns to find out more of Patrick Rowan's story. I would imagine that he was pushed to Dewsbury young to flee the famine? Would the whole family have left Ireland to do so....? It is fascinating to put the pieces back together of these lives. You can write to me at woodsmurphy@yahoo.com Warm regards, Maryann
