Engles was Catherine Halligan Engles ( wife of Thomas W Engles )and sister to Belinda Halligan Terry, they were the children of Patrick Halligan & Bridget Prendergast Halligan ( Bridget Halligan as a widow later m. Nicholas Duncan ) I would really love to communicate with others interested in this family as I have a vast amount of information I am happy to share. In recent years with the aid of DNA testing on a number of Prendergast family lines we have uncovered amazing details linking families previously not known to be connected. Again I appreciate you sharing this information. Trust you are having a wonderful Christmas Day in the USA. Author: pbbut Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.halligan/11.1.1.1.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: You're welcome. I am updating some information at Resurrection Cemetery in Springfield MO, where Mrs. Terry is buried. The death certificate says Elfindale Cemetery, which was on the grounds of Elfindale Mansion, which had become a school for the Sisters of Visitation. http://thelibrary.org/lochist/postcards/elfindale.cfm When sold, those buried in Elfindale were reinterred, many in Resurrection, including Mrs. Terry. The others were nearly all members of the order Sisters of the Visitation of Holy Mary. Good information on these certificates, like Informant, Mrs. J. W. Engles. Was she a sister, daughter, niece, friend? She traveled from Nebraska for the deceased. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [HALLIGAN] Alexander Edward Halligan and Elizabeth McCarthy
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: pamandrogerchilds Surnames: Halligan McCarthy Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.halligan/239/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am keen to find the birth details and ancestors of Alexander Edward Halligan (Hallaghan) and Elizabeth McCarthy, who were married at St Matthews Anglican Church, Auckland, New Zealand on 17 August 1865. Alexander's birthplace is recorded on his death certificate as Ireland and I have found a birth record which might be his in Armagh (1836). However IGI sources say his birthplace was Swineford, Mayo about 1837. He was 52 when he died in Wanganui, NZ, on 3rd April 1889. Elizabeth's birthplace is shown as New Zealand on her death certificate but as no record has been found in BDM or Diocesan Archives I think she immigrated to NZ. Elizabeth was born about 1847 and died in Wanganui, NZ, on 31st March 1919, aged 72. According to their death records Alex's father was Thomas and Elizabeth's mother was Elizabeth. If anyone can help I would be very grateful. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: dlking55 Surnames: Halegan, Halligan, Hallighan Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.halligan/236/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Does anyone have info about the origins in Ireland of the Halligan family of Drew County Arkansas? The earliest ancestor listed was born John Halegan in 1804 in Ireland. We just don't know where in Ireland. This John Halegan married a woman from South Carolina, Ann. Their John Halegan/Hallighan/Halligan was born in Louisiana. The other children were born in Mississippi. We think most Halligans came from Armagh, but we don't know if John Halegan did. He had no brother but a 1932 BD of John would be chronologically correct. Also interesting to me is the name John; while common, all the Halligan men in my family back to the 1830's as far as I can track, have either the names John, William or James as a first or middle name. My middle name is John. I know there are many Halligan's on the eastern seaboard, and I wish you luck. Could you let me know if you find anything of this man?
