While I do not know of a Pittsburgh connection, I have noticed a commonality of the men in my branch of the family that doesn't apply to others. All the men have either a first or middle name of William, James, or John. I have traced this back even to gravestones in Drogheda, Ireland where my great-gran da came from. Probably a worthless bit of information for you, but perhaps there is some connection here, as all the men mentioned in you letter have those names! Kip John Halligan

He was then 82 years old. He had a daughter Kirsti in River Rock, married to Aanon Mikkelsen Bratteland. They had six or seven children. Ole died in 1847. He was a woodcarver and had his work displayed in major museums in Norway and in Stockholom, Sweden. It is said that he also made two major animal carvings in River Rock, MN. I know of one granddaughter, Julianne Olsen Eggen who was alive and well in River Rock, MN as late as 1998. Any help is appreciated.

    1. Elizabeth Ann HALLIGAN b.1843 VA
    2. Geraldine Miller
    3. This is a new surname for me. Does anyone else have my Elizabeth Ann in their HALLIGAN tree. I don't know much about my Ellis as she was called on one document. Census records state she was born in VA Jan. 1843. Evidently she married Carl Wilhelm KIEL about 1868 but I don't know where. Carl could have been in PA before coming to St. Louis. I find them in St. Louis on the 1880 census with 5 children. The oldest was stated that he was born MO 1870. One document was stated Ellis as being from WV. Was wondering if she was born in a VA county that it is now WV. Does anyone know of HALLIGANS in PA or VA in this time frame. I had the 1850 VA census checked for HALLIGAN & found only 2 & they were in the same household. Does anyone have the 1840 VA census for HALLIGAN? Geraldine in MO

    1. Looking for Halligan relatives in Ireland
    2. Mary Halligan
    3. I am looking for Halligan relatives in Ireland. My great grandfather, John Patrick Halligan came to Mobile, Alabama, sometime around 1862. John was born in 1833 somewhere in Ireland. He was knowledgeable about building ships and could read and write. He married Alice Burns in 1865 (in Mobile) and had five children, Maggie, Josephine, Albert Sidney, Robert Lee, and Edmund Byrne Halligan. Edmund was a year old when he died. Robert did not marry and was 27 years old when he died. Maggie and Josephine were sent back to Ireland, when John Patrick's business closed in 1880. John Patrick left Mobile in 1880 to find work in New Orleans, Louisiana to support his family. One year later he died of a heat stroke. Alice died two years later of dysentery. They are both buried in unmarked graves. My grandfather, Albert Sidney was the only one left (that I know of). I believe he was raised by the Burns' family. I have found very little records here in the US of my family's. My grandfather, Albert Sidney died several months after I was born. I believe that he did not know much about his parents. He was only 3 years old when his father, John Patrick died, and 5 years old, when his mother, Alice died. I do know that my great grandfather, John Patrick designed and built a submarine during the American Civil War. I have copies of letters (in 1862) John Patrick wrote to General Beauregard about building a submarine (the "St. Patrick") to destroy the "Lincoln gun boats". Albert left his family at a young age (14 or 15) to go work on ships. He eventually became a marine engineer. He spent some time in New York City, which is where he married Johanna Coffee (born in Memphis, Tenn) around 1910. Supposedly, Maggie and Josephine came to New York City from Ireland for the wedding. A few years later, he moved back to New Orleans and fathered 3 children, Nellanna, John Francis (my father), and Thomas Sidney Halligan. Any information or help would be appreciated. I have been researching my genealogy for over 8 years, and keep hitting a brick wall when it comes to the Halligan line. Thanks, Mary Halligan Houston, TX USA

Mary Frances was married 31 May 1854 to George Joseph Mauger at St. Philips Church, Clerkenwell, London. Any information or leads about Mary Ann will be appreciated.
