    2. Hello Again, I have a feeling that I owe you a sincere apology. I hope that I did not offend or upset you in any way. I was so excited to think that there were really relatives on my dads side out there. I know, that must sound silly but it is true. My hubby always says that I can get too exuberant and perhaps I should listen. When I refered to you as " a common denominator" I meant it in the nicest of ways. See, I have spent time looking into my family tree to see where I came from but ultimately I was hoping if I gave it enough shakes perhaps I would shake out some living relatives that could talk to me about the past and perhaps a little about the present as well. I will be able to tell you the name of the relative that was a nun as I have to contact the bank in St. Malachie to remove my money. I believe that her name is listed on the account. Which bank I have long since forgotten. It seems so sad and so final to remove that bit of money though. Perhaps that is why I have never been able to follow through on it. She was very kind to leave money to a chubby, frecked face, lonely little girl from Hardwick, Vt. Again accept my apologies. Mary

    2. Hi Jim, Just got home! Ran and checked my email right away!! Each piece of information is like opening a gift. I am so happy to have found a common denominator in this search. (Bet you've never been called that before!) LOL. I went to the grave yard and walked it completely in case there were any relatives there that I had not been aware of before. Yes, I found 2. Patrick and Catherines' oldest daughter Mary Catherine Halligan Ambrose - 1891-1961 - with her daughter Cecilia - 1915-1996 - buried at her feet. Then, a little further on I found Marquerite Halligan Brown (aunt Peg) - 1905-1975- and her husband William 1907-1986. He was a boston attorney. I know that this is probably all fluff as you really are looking for info. directly for Patrick but it will help fill in a family tree if needed. It seems that my grandfather is close to impossible to find info on. It is almost exclusively through his children that we find evidence of his existence. Do you live close to Vt? I live about 8 miles away from Elrick Tacys' home up on the mountain. I think that the elderly ladies may have been Patricks sisters. ?????!!! Do you know if Patrick was married twice? I ask because my grandmother and Elricks mother Ella were half sisters. I also copied down the dates on the Tacy stone Charles 1878-1945 Ella Halligan 1889-1981 (much younger than Charles!) a young son Dalton died as a child 1912-1921. Elrick told me the cause of death but I foolishly did not write it down. I think that Patrick and his family spent some time in NH as my father was born in that state and he was born in the late 1800s. My dad was Lemuel Thomas Halligan. Again so sorry if I have carried on excessively. I will try to stay more focused on Patrick in the future. Mary

    3. I am not sure.... My great aunt Maggie (Margaret Humphrey) had a daughter I believe that was a nun and 20 years ago she was not a nun, but as I said was one. Aunt Maggie lived to be a 100 years old and spent her life in St. Malachie. She maried a Humphrey in and around St. Malachie. She was the Godmother to my mother when she was baptized in St. Malachie. 2. I moved last week end and most everything is still packed but here is what Elrick told me... his mother and my grandmother were half sisters. I am going to go to the cemetary later this am and get the info off from the stones and email it to you. Do you live in Canada or the states? Anywhere near Vt? Perhaps you can help me put names to a vague memory that I have from childhood. I was born in 1953 and when I was about 7 or 8 (?) we had several people visit that I had never seen before nor did I ever see them again. I think that my dad called the 2 ladies his aunts. One or both were nuns. I do not remember anything about the others that came. I was just very impressed with these women because a) they were very kind and attentive to me and b) they seemed so very old and fragile to me. I hope that I have the facts straight. In fact one nun left me a little money when she died and it is still in a bank in Canada. I have to find it now. My parents told me about the money. Would you know anything about these women? Do I have many relatives in St. Malachie? Mary

    3. Yes, we are related. Can you send me information on your grandfather Patrick Halligan. I haven't spoken to the Tacy family in a long time. When my mother was living (she died in 1980) she did visit her aunt, Eldrick'mother and they lived in Vermont at that time. Somewhere I have a list of the Halligan's that were born and raised in Canada (St. Malachie). 2. The reason that I ask about the photo is that my grandmothers house caught fire and my father had to carry her out. It is my understanding that she had serious leg problems later in life and that if dad had not been there she would have been burned. The house was totally destroyed as was everything in it. My cousin Eldrick was a wonderful, wonderful person and I only wished that I could have gotten to know him better. I had left the area for quite a few years and then when I returned I looked him up. He was strong and handsome right up to the last year or so of his life. Mary

    2. I have been going crazy trying to get my info together on this. I have a cousin here in East Barre and before he died I met him. He used to visit back and forth with family members from St. Malachie. His wife is still alive but mentally not well. She is living in a semi nursing home situation. Mary

    2. Hi, This is Mary and my grandfather was Patrick if I have my information correct. My father was Lemuel Thomas Halligan and was born a twin. His sister died at birth or was born dead, I can not be certain. I was a change of life baby and have not been able to meet any of the family in St. Malachie. Any info that you might have would be sincerely appreciated. Mary
