I found a John W. Hall 14 in the household of David M. and Sarah Hall in the 1880 census. The 1880 census is free on Ancestry.com. In the 1880 census search for John Hall in Alabama, born Alabama in 1865. The list will show several John W Hall's. Only one is in Blount County, select it. It will take you to printed page 375A.
