While I'm here....is there any possibility of compiling all the wonderful advice that was given to Sharron into a FAQ for newbies? Is there a means of posting it somwhere or including it in a "welcome" e-mail to new members?? I would add to all that top notch research info that it's wise when searching a census to collect all the info on all families with the surname in that county. That saved me a tremendous amount of backtracking when I began. Also, neighbors for several addresses before and after the people you know are yours but with different surnames may later turn out to be missing married sisters, daughters, or remarried mothers of your subject. I ALWAYS use DIGEST mode. Digest mode is much easier to deal with than a zillion individual e-mails. You can skim right thru the subject lines and just zoom down to the ones that interest you.
