The Kaufmans lived in and near Piopolis IL where an old Catholic church is located. This area was settled by Germans so William Hall may have liked the name Mathias but old Mr. Kaufman. Margaret's father was Matteus Kaufman. William Hall married Rebecca Warfield in 1842 in Hamilton County IL. So William was there about the time the Germans were leaving Germany to keep from being conscripted into the Kaiser's army. William Hall was born in IL in 1817/1818. Hope this helps a little. Also, my mother said that George Matthias went up around Chicago for his high school education and that he used to help her with math and chemistry in school. I thought the Halls were from around Springfield IL because George's sister, Mary A. went there to marry Charles E. Yocum.
