Dear Hall list, As long as we are on to integrity issues-- I will not name names--but in the last two weeks I discovered a post on a site I'd never been to before with MY NAME at the bottom, requesting that any information on so and so be sent to me AT MY EMAIL ADDRESS! No kidding. I was flabbergasted. I was even more appalled when this particular post, which I sent to a Hall colleague, was sent back to me by her as a post which apparently appeared on the Hall list in February--signed by someone in this group, i.e., his exact post, verbatim. I was shocked! The site administrator immediately removed this post when I advised him it had not been written by me. He was as shocked as I. (This is a first for me in my long Net use. I still can't even believe someone would even do this! Why?) Let me state clearly here and now that no one on this list has the right or permission to use my name and email address anywhere on the Net, posting a message and posing as me. Totally unacceptable behaviour and I'm deeply disappointed I would have to say such a thing. So, yes, sometimes we have to be wary. Sad, but true. You cannot assume that everyone you meet on any list anywhere will have your best interests at heart, even in a world as seemingly benign as genealogy. It's your family history. Treasure it. Take care of it. If you share information try to use a pdf so they can't change it without your permission (without a LOT of retyping).
