    1. [HALL] [admin] Writing a Hall Message Board Post
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: mcmanness Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.hall/13706/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Please be sure your messages are clear and concise. Follow a format such as the following and you will be successful in conveying your meaning: 1. Have a clear, concise subject line. Example: HALL, Albert, 1879 Norwich, ENG > 1931 Seattle, WA 2. Describe what you already know. 3. Describe what you've already done in your research. 4. Describe what it is that you want to find out. 5. Show surnames in all CAPITAL letters so that they stand out. 6. Last but not least! Be sure to include ALL surnames INCLUDED in the message post in the SURNAME BOX seperated by commas. Example: Baum, Chum, Day, Hall, Kistner, Lane, Ross. *These are NOT all the surnames you are researching, ONLY the surnames included in the message post are appropriate. The subject line in a message plays a key role to successful communication. Many people are very busy and don't have a lot of time to spend sorting through numerous message posts or e-mail messages. In this case they may just skim through subject lines to find messages that interest them. Your subject line should be concise and detailed. Include a given name and the surname(s) and/or place name, as well as any pertinent dates. Doing so will ensure that your message will stand out from those that just say "Genealogy", "My Family", OR HALL Family." The surname box in a message also plays a key role to successful communication. This is particularly important because the surnames in the surname box are indexed so that people can find YOU when using the search engine. Make the subject line and surname box work for you! You will notice that messages coming through to the list from the message board gateway are showing the gateway address as the sender and NOT the person who posted the message on the board. This is due to upgrades made to the board system. The proper course of action has always been to click the link in the gateway post and reply on the board but now that method of replying has become mandatory as there is no way to reply via email to the board poster - any replies you wish to make MUST be posted on the board. Replying to only the LIST will NOT reach the board poster and clicking REPLY to the gateway post will result in the gateway address bouncing as it is NOT a valid address for receiving mail. You will notice that you MUST register to Post on the boards, this is nothing new! Registration is FREE! When you post, you will notice that if you reply on the board, you can click on the address and a message will either come up and say they have chosen to be anonomous. Ancestry is also requiring you to register. This is also FREE! Go to main Ancestry page and click on the tab that says Ancestry Community in the masthead. Next click the Site Preferences link and set the options you want regarding making your email address accessible to the public. It is also a good idea to REGISTER on the RootsWeb side: https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/ so that you have an account with RootsWeb as well but there is NO option to check off regarding your email address on the RootsWeb side. I hope you enjoy your association with the HALL Message Board and that it will be useful in furthering your knowledge of the HALL surname family. May it bring you lots of success in your genealogy research. Keep your ideals high enough to inspire you and low enough to encourage you. Thank you, enjoy, participate, and have a good time! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.
