Aug. 25, ' 72 Dear Mother and Sisters and Brothers: I take the present opportunity to write you a few lines to inform you all that me and Rebecca is well hoping when these few lines come to hand it may find you all well. I received your letter today dated on the 10th of August and was glad to hear from you all. Mother you wanted me to let you now what I wood take for my claim in the land. I dont no you do what you think is best and it will be satisfaction with me if you want to sell it you can do so or you can rent out it will sout me. I want bee contrary you say you have written three letters and got no ans. I have not received them as for my part I have not ben able to no whar to write your post office has bin changed. I want you to write to me and give me all the news of the surrounding country. I want to no what G.W. Hall is and all his family is and if William Hall is living at the same old place and whear W.N. Hall and the rest of the family Ward is Sarah is and what she is doing and be shore and tell them to write to me. I will say something about my crop I think it will make 8 bags and corn nuff now I am working my self I think you all could do a little better in framing I want you to write to me how all the churches is prospering I am going to for my letter I think I will settle my self here we have good preachers here give my best respect to Uncle Billy Tucker and Aunt all of the inquiring friends so I will close for this time as you wrote such a long letter to me I will give you more in the next letter I remain you sun and brouther untell deathe J.D.
