Anyway, if you have never seen the actual census images, photos of the census pages, it is definitely worth taking up Jackie's offer. I mean can you imagine riding horseback with your inkwell in tow? Seeing them had a dramatic impact one me - one of "feeling" the differences of the past 150 years. I am transcribing an 1850 census for the USGenWeb Census Project. It has taken Mr. Graves, my enumerator, 6 months to register 4,000 names. They also have > lots of indexes that might at least give you a clue of where to look next if you have hit the proverbial "brick wall".
