Author: we88j4 Surnames: Hall, Cubbison, Henard Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.hall/14289/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi! I'm looking for help with a very elusive ancestor, Victor Eugene Hall. I'm having a lot of trouble getting information about him. Here's what I know: He was born 6 Feb 1901 in Missouri. In 1938 he went to California, and in 1942 his son was born in Oakland, CA. Victor was working as a Flangers Helper at Dodd Shipping Yards at that time, and was married to Mollie Norene Henard, from whom he was later divorced. The next definite "sighting" I have of him was Dec 10, 1953 when he married Reba Cubbison in Kansas City, Jackson co., Missouri. I cannot find Victor Hall anywhere - looking at censuses I have found several of them born in Missouri about the same time, but have ruled out all but one. This one has a sister named Verda Hall Lopp. I cannot find a death certificate for Victor in any of the online databases. He died sometime between 1959 and 1993. I did find a death certificate for his wife Reba Cubbison who died 10 Dec. 1993 but it only lists her as a widow. I have requested a lookup from the Missouri Historical Society to see if they can find an obit for her that might be of some help. She was buried in Benton co., Missouri (New Home Cemetery). Might anyone have an inventory of this cemetery? I'm hoping Victor is there as well, with dates on his headstone. Does this ring a bell with anyone? I'd be grateful for any clues you might be able to provide, or ideas on how to get around this. Thanks! Karen Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Denise, Good luck with your search. I wanted to give you a little bit of my families Morton History, I say my Morton history but in fact it's my mother- in- laws family. I just married into it :-). Maybe it will be of some use to you. My Morton line is documented back to Scotland where on 6-14-1819 John and Susan Morton arrived in Philadelphia on the ship "Alexander" from Scotland. The copy of the ships manifest which is hard to read shows 11 Morton family members. Susan and John Morton had 5 children: Andrew b. abt. 1790 in Scotland, Jane b. abt. 1793 Scotland, *John Jr. b. abt. 1796 Scotland, James b. abt. 1797 and William b. 1800 Scotland. Andrew married a woman named Susan they had 5 children: Leah b. 1834, John b. 1836, Katherine b. 1838, Jane b. 1841 and Ann b. 1842. Jane married Robert Gray also b. in Scotland and had 5 children: Susan b. 1820, Robert b. 1826, Jane b. 1830, Ann b. abt. 1832 and John b. abt. 1832. *My line John Jr. married Jeannette Weir also b. Scotland had 9 children: John W. Morton b. 1835, Ann S. b. 1840, *Susan Forrest Morton b. 1840, Jane G. b. 1843, Robert b. 1845, Elizabeth b. 1847, Mary b. 1849, Jenietta b. 1852, William b. 1854. *Susan Forrest Morton married James McNeel 1859 they had 5 children John Morton McNeel b. 1860, Stella b. 1863, Madora " Madie b. 1867, * Jennetta Morton McNeel b. 1870, Harvey James b. 1876. *Jennetta Morton McNeel married William Wade Walker 1895 and had 6 children: William Neel b. 1896, James Leonard b. 1898, George Shannon b. 1900, Anna b. 1902,* John Taylor b. 1906 and Mary Elizabeth b. 1909. *John Taylor Walker married Jean F. Knoebel and had 5 children all but 2 died as children. The two surviving children sisters, Lois and Mary Helen ended up marring two Hall brothers, Lois to Dilver Galen and Helen to Donald Eugene. My husband is the son of Don and Helen Hall. James Morton b. abt. 1797 married Ann? William Morton b. 1800 Scotland married Flora? they had 4 children: Susan b. 1841, John W. b. 186, William J. b. 1848 married Eliza Jennie Gordon and finally Flora J. Morton b. 1851. If these people at not noted as being born in Scotland then they were born in Indiana, Switzerland or Jefferson Co., many lived their entire lives there. Carmel church cemetery goes back to at least 1839 many Morton family members are buried there and Carmel cemetery is available on line thru the Jefferson Co., website. Sorry I couldn't be of more help but maybe one of the branches split off and cross the Ohio. Like I said it's probably not more that 100 yards wide there. My mother in laws grandfather William Wade Walker owned land in Hanover which was known as Walker Landing. This is were the steamboats landed and where passengers disembarked. He was in charge of keeping the lantern lite so at night or in foggy conditions the Captains could see where they were to go. This lantern and his picture happen to be in the Jefferson Co., Historical Societies museum. I can tell you that Ethel (the mom) was in SF in 1900 with her family and then in Oakland in 1910 in an orphanage. Her mom died in 1902. I grew up here in SF but now live on the east coast. Just visiting - I found their marriage record which gave me his name - and where she disappeared to. Thanks for another piece of the puzzle. I'll get over to NARA on Monday for the military records. Is there anything I can look up here for you on your CA Hall person? Peggy Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. So I searched that specific database for Carl Warren Hall, which told me his birth was in Kansas. Then I could go to the census to look for a Carl Hall, b. Kansas, 1886 /- 2 years. That found me the Carl Hall on the 1920 census. Also, knowing he was from KS, I clicked on KS from the search page, and searched for Carl Hall on all the KS databases. That pulled up the Army registration hit. I'm not related, but I have a cousin Carl Hall who was born in California. I did do a lot of searching for Carl, his wife, daughter and mother on both the 1900 and 1930 census and drew a blank. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
