KY. She married James Stephenson, 10 Sep 1798 in Garrard Co. KY. James was first observed in Lincoln Co. about 1795. James MAY have been a son of the Thomas Stephenson that obtained a 1000 acre preemption in Lincoln Co. KY in 1781. The preemption was about 1 miles east of Logan's Fort that was at present day Stanford KY. John Hall, Sarah's father, also had a 1000 preemption, obtained at the same time, that adjoined the Stephenson preemption on the south end. Hall's Gap was on the south end of this John Hall's 1000 acre preemption. I have always assumed that it was named for him since it was on his property. I have a plat of many of the original property boundries on the east side of Stanford. Most of the people there were all kin of Col. Benjamin Logan and all came from the Shenandoah valley including John Hall and Thomas Stephenson. Thomas Stephenson married Elizabeth "Betsy" Logan, daughter of David Logan and she was a sister of Col. Benjamin Logan. John Hall Jr, son of this John Hall, married a Stephenson. I believe her name was Mary, without looking. She may have been a daughter of David Stephenson, again without looking. This David Stephenson and a Robert Stephenson bought part of the Thomas Stephenson preemption in 1792. Thomas appeared in court to witness all the deeds. (so, this Thomas was not the one killed at the battle of Blue Licks) David stayed in Lincoln Co. KY and Robert married Elizabeth Whitley, daughter of William Whitley, and they moved to Limestone Co. KY. Right now, a bunch of Stephenson researchers would sure love to find a male Stephenson descendant of this David that would submit to a YDNA Test! We have no idea why the Univ. of KY didn't obtain DNA when they did the research at the Stephenson/Vardeman cemetery. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Marvin was born in Texas in 1905 and descended from a Hall family with roots in Virginia and eventually Williamson Co., TN. I spoke with him in 2001 when he was 96 years young and still going strong in Scarsdale, NY. He sent me quite a bit of painstaking research he had done on the family. Sadly, he died in 2003. I'd love to make contact with his descendants or other family members as DNA testing may now help get over that brick wall that perplexed him. I believe this is his line... 1 Robert Anderson Hall b: Abt. 1800 in VA .. Mary Margeret MacDonald ... 2 William Anderson Hall b: in NC d: Bet. 1878 - 1880 ....... Martha Ann Holland b: Abt. 1846 in Tn m: 1868 in Normandy, Bedford Co., TN ........ 3 Minnie Hall b: Abt. 1870 ........ 3 Mary L. Hall b: Abt. 1872 ........ 3 Myrtle Hall b: Abt. 1874 ........ 3 Franklin Jerome Hall b: Abt. 1874 .............. 4 Marvin Hall b: 26 May 1905 d: 05 Nov 2003 in Scarsdale, NY ........ 3 Willie Hall b: Abt. 1878 ... 2 Elizabeth Ann Hall ... 2 Sinia Hall ... 2 John Hall ... 2 Ben Hall Thanks. She sailed on the Amaranth with her parents and siblings. She married and settled on South Ridge (now Tschumper Ridge) near La Crescent and Hokah, Minnesota, and near LaCrosse, Wisconsin. One family searcher said she's from Austria. Her tombstone says she is from Hourdow, Deutschland. However, my parents said she was Swiss. I've been unable to locate the word "Hourdow" on the internet. Has anyone heard of the place? Does anyone know where Veronica (Veronika) Hicke (born 1847 ?) was born?
