Dear Fellow Hall Family Member: I am seeking information on my greatfather, Augustus ( Gus ) Hall. First name might also have been spelled: Argustus, Agustus, Agusta, Augusta. This Hall family lived in the Jenkins, Ky., Letcher County area at one time, and apparently lived most, if not all of his life in Eastern and Southeastern Kentucky, so hopefully there are some decendants of Augustus and his family that could give me some information about him. If I could just find out who his Father and Mother were, hopefully his Father's full name, where he was from and his Mother's maiden name, and any brothers or sisters he may have had. He was born on March 22, 1852. Where unknown, probably in Kentucky maybe one of these counties: Letcher, Breathitt, Wolfe, Knott, Magoffin, Morgan or Rowan. It is possible he was born in Virginia as that is where my Hall ancestors immigrated to from England. He died on February 17, 1932 in Rowan County, Ky. but, there is no death certificate for him. He died at the home of John Cy Perry in the Craney area. According to my Mother who was 24 years old at the time of his death, he was buried in the Brown family cemetary on the north fork of the Licking river in Morgan County ( an area known as Craney ). The graves in the Brown family cemetary were moved in the early 1960's or late 1950's for the construction of Cave Run Reservoir to the Alfrey cemetary in Rowan County. Birth date was recorded in a family bible that is now owned by ,Leora Hall Hood, who is still living in Morehead, Ky. but, no other readable information about him. He married Evaline Morefield who was from Breathitt County, Ky. in about 1876 as there first child Emma Hall was born on December 1, 1878. Her father was David Morefield and her mother was Dulsenia Calhoon. They had a total of six children. Emma Hall b. December 1, 1878, David Frank Hall born January 13, 1885 and died February 22, 1980 in Rowan County, Ky. (Leora Hall Hood's father), William "Willie" H. Hall born March 30, 1887, John Edward Hall ( my grandfather ) born September 16, 1889 and died September 11, 1910 while in the military ( probably the army ), Sarah Ellen Hall born December 21, 1894 and James Roy Hall born July 21, 1898. James my have been serving in the merchant marines when he died. Time unknown. I have hit a brick wall with Augustus as I can find no information on him anywhere. According to my Mother who remembers him but, not any real concrete information said he was a very mean man, so there is a good chance he had some run ins with the law throughout his life time. A man can not live for eighty years and not have some kind of recorded information about his life but, I'll be darned if I can find any on Augustus. Any information anyone could contribute would be greatly appreciated so I can continue with my family tree. Thank you for your time and any help you might be able to give. My email address is: kenhall@kenhall.com
Just wanted to let everyone know that I'm finally adding to material at http://www.geocities.com/BourbonStreet/Quarter/5221 I put up a page that deals with Forks of the Creek area of Jackson Co, FL. It includes now an introduction for the regimental histories I'm putting on line and a chart of assignments for nearly all the regiments I'm researching. They include: 37th and 3rd AL, 4th and 6th FL. There are rosters for the companies in which my ancestors served. Hope to have one up this week for Co E of the 37th AL. Thanks, Ron Hall
At the following site you will find information I abstracted from micro of original records from Lunenburg and Mecklenburg counties. This is a HALL only site. Verna, We may have the same family, although I am deadlocked on it too. My great-great grandfather, LEONARD HALL, was born in Delaware County, NY in 1815. He married Lucy Adeline Winder on Nov. 20, 1845 at Ft. Atkinson, Jefferson County, WI. He died on Apr. 30, 1866 in Jefferson County, WI. Have all his descendants, and a full line on the Wilder family. Have never been able to find Leonard's parents or siblings. What is the connection of your Chester Hall with Wisconsin? Is it possible that these two are brothers? A move to Minnesota from Wisconsin would be believable. Joan Hall Alyea
Hello to everyone, I'm new to the list but have been researching my Hall roots for quite awhile. I'm descended from : 1. Thomas b. abt. 1700 m. Martha ( my gggggg-grandparents) 2. Jesse b. abt. 1746 Va. m. Dicy 3. Reuben b. 1771 N.C. m. Nancy Branham-Smith 4. Reuben Jr. m. Mahala Bentley 5. Thomas b.12/24/1840 Ky. m. Martha Whitaker 6. George Hall b. 1/6/1880 Ky. m. Lorena Brummet 7. William b. 1/4/1921 m. Doris Murphy ( my grandparents) Anyway, I have found so much great information on various Hall lines where the common ancestors would be Thomas, Jesse or Reuben, but any descendants of Thomas Hall and Martha Whitaker have proved elusive. I do have a family record of their children's names and spouses and some of the names of their children but I haven't been able to validate this record. I would greatly appreciate any additional information on these Hall roots and look forward to sharing mine. Sincerely, Debbie Lashua

Found Harvey S. Hall b. Aug 1849 and his wife Ella A. (Wright) Hall b. 1854 in the 1900 US census for Shawnee county, Kansas in Williamsport Twp. Their 2 sons, Frank G. b. Dec 1879 and Irvin E. (?) b. May 1881 were with them. I have not been able to locate what happened to them and where they went. When did Harvey die and where is he buried? Who did the sons marry and what about their families? They had a daughter, Clara M. Hall who was born in 1878 and I don't know what happened to her either. Did she marry in Kansas or in Iowa before they left? Any help on this family would be appreciated. Janet King Bower Buznjan@worldnet.att.net

This was sent to me from a friend -- have you seen this yet? Mormons Offer Family Records Online Church puts its 400-million-name genealogy database on the Web. by James A. Martin, special to PC World May 24, 1999, 9:00 a.m. PT Are you trying to get the lowdown on that colorful great-great-uncle who died in the Civil War? Your best bet is to start with a new site developed and maintained by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The Mormon Church's FamilySearch site http://www.familysearch.com/ <http://www.familysearch.com/> debuted Monday after a month and a half of testing. The site provides free access to the church's genealogy database of more than 400 million names, making it one of the largest family history research sites on the Internet. Ancestry.com, for example, lists some 240 million names; it also charges fees to access its database. At FamilySearch, you can narrow your search by entering the name of a relative as well as the names of his or her parents. The site searches through the Mormon Church's online database as well as thousands of other genealogical Web sites. The results are listed together for easy review. The external sites are prequalified by the church for their quality and content, according to Mike Otterson, director of media relations for Mormon Church in Salt Lake City. "This is the first time we've put our family history data online," Otterson says. Previously, the church's genealogy resources were available on CD-ROM or from any of its 3600 Family History Centers located around the world. The database is not confined to members of the Mormon Church, Otterson notes. "We've been forerunners of family history research for a century or more and have always believed in making our records available to the public as well as to church members," Otterson says. The FamilySearch site is financed by the church. While access to its resources is free now, the church has not decided how long that will be the case, according to Otterson. The site has already received more than 250,000 hits during its testing phase, putting it on track to be one of the Web's most popular sites, Otterson adds.
Hello, Friends! I am wondering if anyone knows about the Halls from Northampton/Wilby, England that came to America and settled in Norwalk, CT, 1882. Walter Hall came to America in 1882 and married Anna Marie Heine, of German descent. Walter Hall's family (Rev. John Hall -- uncle, brother Leonard Hall, Barrister, and sister Alice Hall Clutton) stayed in England and I am looking for the descendants of his sister, Alice Hall, who married ???Clutton in 1882. Can anyone help me out? I would like to find my long lost relatives! With appreciation, Cara Hall Thompson msmusic@sover.net
In my research for parents of Gr. Grandfather Hall's parents which I find nothing so far. His second wife Alcinda Bell Hedges, mother of my Grandfather Thomas Robert Hall, I have 11 generations which has been verified by information compiled by John Dera, 250 Palomar Dr., Redwood City, Calif. given to G. Juliana by Mrs. Paul Strohmeyer 2400 Lincoln Dr. Denver, Co. 19 Dec. 1966. This information I have is a copy of research done in 1966 so I haven't tried to contact the person who compiled it. I would imagine he isn't there anymore. The reason I am posting this is the information has been proven and my first cousin gave me a copy. Although I haven't got it all straight yet, it does prove that the Hedges and Julien families are relatives. On one page my Aunt who is deceased wrote to a person doing research. They outlined where they were 3rd cousins. Julien and Hedges families married. If you have any information or interest in this, please let me know. My Gr. Grandfather was Merriman Boramon Stevenson (M.B.S.) Hall born in Knox County Dec. 27, 1819, first married to Mary Ann Ross in Sept. 1843. Two living children. One was Joseph Hall, the other a girl who married a man by name of Strohmeyer. Can't think of her name offhand. After Mary Ann died young and leaving two children, Merriman moved to Iowa where he married Alcinda Bell Hedges. If this is confusing to you, you are not alone. I have all the proof but it is certainly hard to put together. If interested, please contact me at hannah@wavecomputers.net Need help in getting it all straight. Barbara
