Hi List, Will try again, maybe some new members might know of my Hall. Looking for parents, siblings, of Louansey or Luanna Hall, b. 6 Sep 1840, probably somewhere around RUTHERFORD CO., TN. Have found marriage record of LUANNA HALL marr JNO. P. HUNT 30 Dec 1857 by J.W. Coleman, J.P. In a copy of a Hunt Family Bible listing, her name is listed as LOUANSEY. She and her husband, John P. Hunt, eventually moved to Crockett Co., TN. They are both buried in Floyd's Chapel Cemetery, Maury City, Crockett Co., TN. Have been unable to find anything, except for the marriage record, on Louansey/Luanna Hall. Does anyone out there recognize this Hall? Would dearly love to have any info on her. Will share what info I have on hers and John P. Hunt's descendents. Thank you. Jackie

Dear Hall cousins, I am looking for Hall's from Germany. My Hall family lived in the Aachen area and moved to Sinzenich outside of Euskirchen about 1811. They then moved to Fond du Lac Co., Wisconsin between 1847 and 1850. My branch then moved to Missouri and then the Labette Co., Kansas about 1900. They were Catholic. Somebody theorized that they were an English family who wanted to remain Catholic after King Henry VIII. Thus they moved to Germany and the surname survived in Germany for 300 years. Cousin, Geof Knapp (303)617-9338 gknapp@auc.trw.com

Hi again, Someone made me aware that I had goofed when I wrote Beverley Patent as it related to the Hall family. It was the Borden Grant that Wm. HALL bought 2 tracts in and NOT the Beverley Patent. Sorry about the mix-up! Thanx Cindy
Hi, ISO any info regarding the HALL and LEDGERWOOD families of Catawba Valley, Roanoke Co., VA. William HALL, b. abt 1800, Catawba?; d. 1849, Catawba; buried in the "Old Hall Cemetery", (located on Rt. 624 off Rt. 311). Who was his father? Was it possibly James or Andrew HALL (sons of Wm. who d. 1773 - will filed Botetourt Co.) of Rockbridge Co., VA? Or could his grandfather have been Richard HALL who settled near Drapers Meadow in 1749? Mr. George von Kromer wrote of the HALL family and this story was included in the book, "Places Near the Mountains," by Helen R. Prillaman. Unfortunately I have proven this story basically fiction. Anyone interested in documentation for corrections, please email me. Mr. Kromer writes that Wm. HALL who d. in 1773 is buried in the Old Hall Cemetery in the Catawba Valley. However, I have found data that leads me to believe that this Wm. HALL never lived in the Catawba area. This Wm. bought land in the Beverley Patent on Whistle Creek, near Lexington. He later bought land near Natural Bridge and more than likely is buried in that area. He d. in Botetourt, but his land was actually in what became Rockbridge Co., VA just a few years later. Mr. Kromer also speaks of historical figures that stayed with the Wm. HALL family. Actually, Col. Byrd, Col. Preston, Sir Christopher Gist all stayed with the Richard HALL family in what is now present-day Montgomery Co., VA. This is documented in Kegley's Frontier as coming from Col. Preston's journals. Also documented in Sir Christopher Gists journals (in the Annals of SW Virginia by Lewis P. Summers). Wm. HALL who d. in 1849, will filed at Roanoke Co. CH, married on 1-12-1820 in Montgomery Co., VA to Nancy LEDGERWOOD. In other documents and wills filed at the Roanoke Co. CH, Nancy LEDGERWOOD'S aunt, Rebecca LEDGERWOOD left land to Nancy and her husband Wm. HALL. This land left to Wm. & Nancy was at least part of an original patent of 200 acres given to Wm. LEDGERWOOD in 1800. Wm. LEDGERWOOD actually settled in 1789 (and this land patent was in) Montgomery Co., VA. This part of Montgomery was given to Roanoke Co. in the 1840's. I believe that this Wm. LEDGERWOOD was Nancy LEDGERWOOD HALL'S grandfather. Rebecca LEDGERWOOD names the following siblings in her will, Margaret, Mary and William. From this will it appears that Rebecca, Margaret and Mary were unmarried. I believe from the will of Wm. LEDGERWOOD (Jr.), this brother of Rebecca, that he was Nancy's father. Who was Wm. LEDGERWOOD (Sr.'s) father? I believe he was from the LEDGERWOOD'S of early Augusta Co., VA Both Rebecca LEDGERWOOD and her nephew in law, Wm. HALL died within a few months of each other in 1849. Wm. LEDGERWOOD (Jr.) d. in 1844 and named the following children: William (III), David, Joseph, & Nancy. He names his wife as Sally. Margaret LEDGERWOOD'S will names another brother, David. Also names an Isabella LEDGERWOOD and her dau. Susan Ann. Don't know if Isabella was another sibling or a niece. Wm. HALL, in his will, names his wife Nancy and the following children: James, David, Wm. Jr., John, Lewis, Archibald, Allen. He did not name his daughters, but reference was made to having daughters. Mr. Kromer made reference to Wm. (who d. 1849) as being the son of Andrew HALL who was the son of Wm. who d. 1773. The will for Andrew HALL, filed in Rockbridge Co. does not name a son named Wm. However, Andrew's brother, James' will does. Any and all info is much appreciated regarding either of these families. I am willing to share what data I have gathered. Cindy Roanoke, VA
If you visit the the National Archives/Southeast Regional office in East Point,GA, you can make a request to actually see the card. First things first. NARA/SE, in East Point, is only a few miles away from the Atlanta airport and about 6 miles from downtown Atlanta. It is convenient from Marta (subway) with a bus connection. I suggest a car. Reservations are required to visit the Microfilm room. But you can often get last minute reservations for that day if you call at 8am. Depends. Reservations are made in four hour intervals. 8-12 and 12-4. On Tuesdays they have an evening slot from 4-8. If you make reservations and cannot attend, please notify them so they can allow another person to access the room. Parking is no problem and free. Do not take breifcases or pocketbooks inside as you will have to leave them in a locker they will provide at no charge. When you arrive, check the micro on WW I draft registration for your relative. When you locate them, get an assistant to give you the proper form to fill out. Note! I takes about two hours for them to retrieve the actual card. You have until closing to view it. Hope this helps someone. I used to visit NARA often before my workload curshed my research time. Oh, oh yes. You can access what records are available at that location on-line! Too much for me to tell you about. If you forwarded my message about the WWI draft cards being at the GA NARA branch will you please also forward this message? The original draft card applications (registrations) for every state (the entire US) are at East Pointe. According to the Archive Staff there are no plans to split these cards and move any of them to any other NARA location since East Pointe has been charged with the "custody" of these records. It is only the original cards that are in state / county / alpha order. Someone posted a message to one of the lists that NARA was planning on re-filming the cards since they are now in state / county / alpha order. If such a thing is underway it is unknown to the East Pointe archive staff and they should know if such a thing was in the works. If you request a copy of your ancestor's draft card from any NARA branch other than this one they will be searching the LDS microfilm and you will have to know the state and draft board for them to make a copy. It is only at the East Pointe location that you can request a copy by state and then county and the copy will be made from the ORIGINAL card. If I'm still unclear please let me know. Didn't we have "Universal Military Training" or something of that sort until after the Vietnam War? I know that the men in WW2 had to register for the draft, and if my memory serves me right - that's part of the thing that had this country so up in arms during the Vietnam War - because so many young people burned their draft cards, etc., etc??? At any rate, wouldn't those records be stuffed into some storage facility somewhere, too? Jan T

Prior to the US's entry into WW1 (approx. 1917-1918) every male between the age of 18 and 40 was required to register for the draft. The information found on the card was provided by the individual himself. The registration cards vary in information depending on the individual draft board. But by and large the cards include: The full name of the person (this means first, full middle name, any additional middle names and last name); the current address of the man; his age; his birthdate (some include his place of birth); whether he is a US citizen or a naturalized citizen (some ask if his father was a naturalized citizen and his father's race); his race; his occupation; where he is employed (name of employer); address or location of employment; name and address of his next of kin; some cards ask if the man is married or single and how many people he supports. The card is signed by the draftee. On the back of the card his physical description is noted: Height is broken down by short, medium, tall although some cards give the actual height in feet and inches; Build by slim, medium, stout although some cards list actual weight along with the build; color of eyes and hair; any deformities or injuries are listed (such as one arm missing, blind in one eye, etc); the name and address of the draft board and the date. When these original cards were transferred to the East Pointe NARA branch the LDS spent about 3 years microfilming these cards. There are hundreds and hundreds of boxes and the LDS opened one box at a time and filmed them - in state order. However, within each state the cards were filed by draft board, not by county or by draftee. This makes the searching of the microfilm difficult to say the least. The good news is that the Friends of the National Archives took each box after it was filmed (and checked) and sorted all of these thousands and thousands of cards into - state and then COUNTY order and then in alphabetical order by surname and put then in new boxes. The Friends deserve all the kudos we can give them for this monstrous task. So ... rather than spending hours and hours searching the LDS microfilm you can order copies of the original cards from NARA. if you know the county your ancestor lived in between 1917-1918. And BTW - Ancestry.com lists WW1 Draft cards in their searchable data bases, however I know for a fact that there are 22 cards for the surname WHITE found in McIntosh Co, OK and Ancestry only gave me 4 of them so don't depend on that site. I was told yesterday that some reps from Ancestry had visited the archives a couple of weeks ago to talk about filming the cards, took one look at the hundreds and hundreds of boxes and simply left. For copies: Send a letter requesting copy(s) to: NARA Southeast Region 1557 St. Joseph Ave East Point, GA 30344 In your letter be sure to say you want copy(s) of the WWI Draft application Cards. Include the name of your ancestor and his race, the state and the county. If you want copies of ALL of the cards with a given surname, ask them the cost of the copies and send a SASE for them to let you know the copying cost. In your letter be sure and say you want a copy of the FRONT and BACK of the card. Be sure to send a SASE for the return of you copies. The cost for the copy is 50 cents - 25 cents for the back and 25 cents for the front. If you only want one copy send a buck and say the difference is to be given to the Friends of the Archives, because after all they did all this wonderful hard work for you <VBG> If you have any other questions about the cards please write to me and I'll try to help. I've been "delving" into these cards for the past few years. But PLEASE don't ask me to get the copies for you. It is difficult for me to take the time off from work to visit the archive to do my own research <g>. And feel free to pass this on to any of the lists you are on. Hi Bertha, Yes, I have run across an Elias HALL in the 1810 thru 1850 PAChesterCo Censi who I feel is most likely the father of the Elias HALL who married Sydney P. ELY. We'll start with 1850, Chester Co., East Nantmeal Twp: Elias HALL age 66 [b.c1784] and wife Elizabeth, age 64 [b.c1786] are listed with Elizabeth [HALL?]SNYDER, age 32 [b.c1818], her husband Eli SNYDER and their son named Elias, age 9, among others. It appears that in the1810 PAChesterCo Census, East Nantmeal Twp, Elias and Elizabeth HALL had one son <10 and one daughter <10. The son could be your Elias b.c1802/3 and was probably born in Solebury, Buck Co, PA. Check the Buck Co. churches, especially the Friends MM, for there are clues pointing that way. From the census records it appears that there were four sons and two daughters in this family. The Chester County Court House Archives in Will Book #21, page#77 show Elias HALL, East Nantmeal, papers #13292 were recorded or proven on 3-30-1858. From them you should be able to find out whether it is for the father Elias or for the son Elias HALL.. I've got an old phone #696-5370, but no area code. It may still be good! I hope that this helps you, Bertha!! Please, let me know what factual information this turns up for you. I would appreciate receiving your HALL genealogy, especially from 1850 and earlier. It could possibly help me in fleshing out the gaps in my search for my G3GF Daniel HALL. I've got much more detail on the HALLs of Chester Co. I hope we can connect here. Best wishes and many discoveries, Ray Hall >Ray, >In you post about the HALL-L@rootsweb.com on the PHILLY-ROOTS list on >August 15, 99; you mentioned that you knew of 9 families of Halls in >Chester Co. Good morning to all, I am still copying the pages from the Hall's book I have gotten. I have a total of 35 page's and have sent 8 pages and will send 2 more in the am. But have been ask if I would copy the pages for some so I thought I would put the offer to the list, not sure if or how many might like this information but the offer is there. When I copied the pages from the book I got two pages per. page and the last page on one sheet, so it is a total of 18 pages to be copied. I also have for Bradford record's copied the pages for the name Hall and it had 2 page for births , 1 page for marriage and 1 page for death. If there is any of you that would like copies of these I am more then willing to have them done, The only thing I ask is for the copy fee . I would say $2.00 should be enough to copy all 22 pages and you can send me a S.A.S.E. to me and I will be glad to send you the copy's.. Have a great day.. Good luck Hunting........
