    3. Folks, This thing about cookies can be avoided. First, you need to understand that cookies are not bad or devious. They are a method by which a programmer can assist you though the web site and are easy to use. It is too much of a technical discussion to go into here. The bottom line is that they are useful and, if you know the web site you are viewing, you should not be scared of them. Also most site now have a 'privacy policy' displayed on the web site that explanes how and why they use cookies. You should take the time to read it. Second, you can turn off your messages about cookies so it is not in your face all the time. The instructions are different depending on which browser you use, netscape or internet explorer, so find the 'options or settings' in the ribbon bar at the top and then adjust the settings that deal with cookies. 1. Dr. Richard Lingan HALL
    2. Steve Roper
    3. I am hoping someone on list may be able to help me solve my mystery. Dr Richard Lingan HALL who died in 1774 in Fauquier Co VA. He had a sister MARY who was the wife of Compton Williamson and resided in Calvert Co MD in 1772. Richard and Mary's MOTHER was named Martha. What was her surname? She died about November 1772 in Fauquier CO VA. Martha married #1___Hall her second husband was Richard Hampton, who died in 1766 in Fauquier Co VA. Richard Hampton was the father of my ancestor WILLIAM HAMPTON who married Ann Minter in1760 in Fauquier and then went to VA. Was MARTHA HAMPTON, the widow HALL, William's mother? Or the mother of any of Richard Hampton's children? Richard Hampton had the following children named in his 1766 will: William (who had a son Richard) Richard JR (who had a son GALE) Sarah Martha Elizabeth (she married in 1772 James Slaughter...Dr RL Hall was her guardian) Richard Hampton's 1766 will is ambiguous in its terms of defining if MARTHA HALL HAMPTON was the mother of any of the children. In his bequests to his children: " I give my daughter Elizabeth Hampton (property) after the marriage or death of MY WIFE" He left land to his daughter Sarah Hampton with no restriction whatsoever placed on the life or death or remarriage of his wife Martha He also left Sarah slaves "after the death or remarriage of my wife" Ditto his daughter Martha He refers to legacies to his sons William and Richard in the same way. My point being, he always referred to Martha as "my wife" and never as "her (or his) mother". I am trying to determone if there is any truth to the unsubstantiated rumor that Richard Hampton was married before to ALICE and that she was in fact the mother of his children. Thank you, anyone, for any help at all. Regina Roper

    3. Hello all. I found a fascinating and thoroughly researched story about the 1868 murder of Issac Hall, Jr. by his mother and brothers at the following website. There are several KY/VA Hall, Caudill and Roberts family genealogies (including pre-1868) attached to the story (genealogies of the perpetrators, victim, and witnesses). Take a look. He married RACHAEL * UNDERWOOD in Bullitt Co, KY ? (Source: EAD 1.). She was born Bet. 1725 - 1750, and died Aft. 1815. Notes for DAVID * HALL: The Hall family history is intertwined with the history of Bullitt County. Records indicate that David Hall purchased 1400 acres of land from the Johnson family in 1788. This land was located on the waters of Salt River in Bullitt County, then Nelson County. This land was to be divided between David Hall and his two brothers, William and Clifton (<<<< note name), and three other relatives, David Paris, Edmund Stringer and Thomas Harris. The Hall brothers are thought to have come from Virginia to Lexington, KY, then Nelson County before settling in Bullitt County. The original acreage covered most of the land from Loyd's Fork to what is now Mt. Washington. While most all the land has been sold and divided among descendants, about 150 acres of the original property is still in the Hall family today. This property is located on Hall's Lane on the banks of Floyd's Fork just before the bridge to Shepherdsville. Still living on the Hall land is Glendon, Shirley and Emery Hall.
