My Halls are the same way. My gg-grandmother was Angeline Hall. My grandmother didn't even know who her grandmother was. I found her name on the death certificate of her son's. I can remember asking my grandmother when I was young what her grandmother's name was and she would just say, "You know, it is kind of funny, but I just don't know." I remember that vividly because I thought it was so sad that she didn't know her grandmother. There were terrible alcohol problems within that part of the family and they must have avoided censuses because I can't find them. I know that they were in Des Moines, Iowa in 1864 and she was either married to Thomas Porter or W.H. Porter (it is reported both ways) because that is where my g-grandfather was born. Her and Thomas (or W.H.) drop out of sight about that time and I can't find them. She may have been Cherokee because my grandmother said she had Cherokee blood from that side of the family. I have even wondered if she was Mulungeon. Strange though, because as I understand it, there were no Native Americans or Mulungeons in Iowa in that time frame. I have just about given up on this quest. Seems like I may never find her. Anyone have any Iowa Hall connections? Connie

Hi everybody, I have been reading the listings and I know that it is very hard to find out a whole lot of information about the HALLS. I have information that I started listing and intended to put the whole list of HALL vital records from POWELL County on this list. I then started having trouble with my arthritis and could not continue. This list goes from 1916-1920. I also have HALL marriages from 1866-1974. some of these I will not put on the internet for some are in all probability still living, however, I am willing to do lookups for people. I have posted other HALL information and I am willing to post it again if anyone is interested please just post to the list and if enough interest is there, I will do my best to help anyone. I am the great grandaughter of JOHN WESLEY HALL FROM STANTON, POWELL COUNTY, KENTUCKY. I KNOW THAT HIS FATHER IN JOHN'S OBITUARY WAS LEONARD HALL MARRIED TO ANGELINE HAMMOND. JOHN MARRIED CAROLINE BOONE IN POWELL COUNTY IN 1866 AFTER HAVING SERVED IN THE UNION ARMY AND SPENDING TIME IN ANDERSONVILLE PRISON. JOHN AND CAROLINE HAD 2 CHILDREN, WILLIAM AND NANNIE. CAROLINE MUST HAVE DIED AFTER THEIR BIRTHS SOMETIME. IN 1874 HE MARRIED MARY MOLLY HAZEL IN INDIANA, I AM UNCERTAIN OF THE COUNTY. THEY HAD 4 CHILDREN THAT LIVED TO ADULTHOOD. SOMETIME BETWEEN 1874 AND 1879, I BELIEVE THAT IS THE DATES,I DO NOT HAVE INFO IN FRONT OF ME, THE FAMILY MOVED TO MCLEAN COUNTY, ILLINOIS WHERE JOHN WORKED ON THE RAILROAD. JOHN WORKED FOR THE RAILROAD FOR 35 YEARS BEFORE HIS DEATH IN SEPTEMBER OF 1911. I AM LOOKING FOR WILLIAM HALL AND NANNIE (HALL) THOMAS. NANNIE MARRIED CHARLES THOMAS IN POWELL COUNTY. WILLIAM MARRIED MARY MOLLY'S SISTER, LEOTA HAZEL IN MCLEAN COUNTY. THE SURVIVING 4 CHILDREN OF JOHN AND MARY MOLLY (HAZEL) HALL WERE HARVEY,HARRY, IDA AND MY GRANDMOTHER, ELSIE (HALL) PHILLIPS. IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED ON THE POSTING OF HALL INFO I HAVE OR LOOKUPS PLEASE FEEL FREE TO POST TO THE BOARD AND MAYBE THE INFORMATION WILL HELP OTHERS ALSO. I WILL GET THE INFORMATION OUT AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. THE TROUBLE WITH MY ARTHRITIS IS STILL A PROBLEM BUT IT IS NOT GOING TO GET MUCH BETTER SO I WANT TO GET THIS INFO OUT THERE BUT ONLY IF PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED AND IF IT IS FOR NON-PROFIT PERSONAL REASONS. AGAIN I WILL NOT POST LATER MARRIAGE DATES OR NAMES DUE TO PRIVACY FACTORS. THE INFORMATIN I DO HAVE IS PERSONALLY RESEARCHED BY ME AND I WILL POST WHERE I GOT THE INFORMATION WHEN I POST THE INFORMATION. HAPPY, READY AND WILLING TO START OPENING UP SOME OF THESE HALL LINES.
