    2. Jerry Hale
    3. I have received information that Pvt Henry (M. or W.) Hall of the Iowa 7th Cavalry Reg Co F was killed in a battle with the Cheyennes at Camp Rankin on 7 Jan 1865. He is listed in a book "The Indian War of 1864" by Eugene F. Ware and the Iowa 7th's adventures in that war have been described by Dr. Robert O. Burgess in his book "Comes a Pale Horse." Both of those books are available from Amazon among other places if anyone is interested. I have also received further information about Dr. J. Hall and have posted a message from Denison University in Ohio in the album at: http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=180242&a=2692819 Jerry Hale ________________________________________________________________ YOU'RE PAYING TOO MUCH FOR THE INTERNET! She is like 3 lots down and then he is buried in between a man and woman by the name of Abshear. Harvey died April 9, 1949 in Dewitt County, Illinois. However I do know that from 1912 to the early 1940's he lived in Fisher, Illinois . --<--<({@ DEBBIE @})>-->--

    1. ORIGIN OF THE NAME HALL.
    2. Found the following from a book writen in 1833 HALLS OF NEW ENGLAND GENEALOGICAL AND BIOGRAPHICAL. BY REV. DAVID B. HALL, A. M., OF DUANESBURGH, N. Y. By the way this book can be researched ON LINE if you are a member of Family Tree Library. It's a great book just could not find my line, oh well. To join go to http://www.familytreemaker.com/index.html ORIGIN OF THE NAME HALL. The Surname Hall is derived from at least three sources. 1. The Norwegian word for flint is hallr, its final letter is silent, and only indicates the nominative case. The word also signified a hero, and on this account the Norwegians often gave it as a name to their children, and it finally became a surname. The old Norse hallr, hals and the Anglo-Saxon haele, haletta, signify the same, a hero. The surname Hawes has the same derivation as Hall. Hallett and Henry are diminutives of the same. Hallse means the son of Henry. The Norwegians settled quite extensively in Scotland, and hence the Scotch Halls. 2. The English Manor House is another source of the name of Hall. In Medieval documents the Manor House is called "Alle, "Halle, "De Aula and "Del Hall." The principal apartment was the hall, which was used as a petty court of justice, as well as the scene of entertainment, hence the tenant or chief servitor acquired the surname De Aula or Del Hall which was retained by his eldest son. 3. The word in Welsh for salt is hall, and a worker in salt is haller, and a dwelling near salt works or on low marshy ground near the sea is halham, halla or halle, hence the origin of the name of the ancient Castle Halla, now City Halle, in Saxony, as extensive salt works are known to have been located there. Or the castle may have taken its name from its chief, who of course was haele, hero. The great mass of English Halls undoubtedly are the posterity of the men of Halle who came in the successive Saxon invasions of England. They were called De la Halle, which became a surname, and is now simply Hall. William of Normandy, who conquered England, and his followers, "insulted dreadfully over the ancient Saxon nobility and spoiled their estates," whose descendants four hundred years later, still groaning under oppression, glad to embrace so good an opportunity for enjoying their ancient rights and love of liberty, emigrated in great numbers to America. Is is said that the Halls of Great Britain exceed in number any other name except those of Smith, Jones, Brown and Robinson. Also, Albert Wells, late of New York, informed me that he had in his possession 106 various specimens of Hall coat of arms

    3. Halls married into Indians, as they must have been traders as I found them listed in the index of a book called "South Carolina Indians, Indian Traders, and other Ethnic Connections beginning in 1670" To see the index, go to http://members.aol.com/rarebk and then to the booklist page. Scroll down till you see the book, and invoke the index. The site also has alot of Indian lists, the 1835 Cherokee census, and some very good Indian genealogical information. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? 1. Barren Co KY [various Hall families]
    2. My Hall line is out of Leonard 1730-1809 [MD/VA/KY] sons lived in Bourbon Co KY on land grants Leonard received. The question is what association does my Leonard have with the Judge John Hall. They were close enough in age to be brothers?? The following is From the book - "The Life and times of Leonard Hall" by Henry Clay Conner “It is difficult to understand why Leonard Hall didn't migrate to East Central Kentucky to develop his land grants, but the record shows he settled in Barren County, which lies 150 miles to the southwest on the Tennessee Border. Someone or something must have influenced his decision; but, to date, I have nothing in my records to determine the reason. I suspect he was related to John Hall, a wealthy Judge in Barren County, prevailed upon Leonard to join him." I found some "old" research on John Hall and it stated he was born in Scotland?? "Descendants of John Hall 1 John Hall b: 02 February 1748/49 Scotland d:25 Sept 1808 Barren Co., Ky.Buried: Hall Cemetery, Barren Co., Ky." Would love to get some feedback on this one. I have always said genealogy is like putting together a puzzle just when you think you have a good start someone tosses in a lot of "sky blue" pieces that do not fit. Thanks Barbara
