He married Margaret ???? about 1823-25 maybe in TN. They Have two daughters born betweeen 1825 and 1830. Malona HALL, born Dec 1826 in TN, is the guardian of my Great grandmother, Rutha SMITH. Ruth Susana Smith, born 30 Apr 1849 in TN or TX, and Elijah Thomas WILSON, born 3 Feb 1839 in Noxubee County, AL; are my Ggrandparents. They were married in 1867 in Lavaca County, TX I am searching for Malona's sister(Rutha's mother). I don't know her name but because Malona was named as Rutha's guardian in the Lavaca County, TX Court of Estates, I believe Rutha's mother(Malona's sister) was the wife of "John SMITH, and wife, deceased of MS". Rutha may have had a sister named Mary and a brother named Wiliam, according to my Uncle Clarence HARDNOCK. On the 1830 and 1840 Greene County, AL census' 1850 Neshoba County census and 1861 lavaca County census' the HALL's, WILSON's, THOMAS', MAHAN's, And SMITH's appear living near one another and intermarrying. The three things that would help me are: Margaret Hall's family name Berriman and Margaret's marriage place and date The name of their otherdaughter listed on the 1830 and 1840 Greene County, AL census. Author: mcmanness Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.hall/13706/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Please be sure your messages are clear and concise. Follow a format such as the following and you will be successful in conveying your meaning: 1. Have a clear, concise subject line. Example: HALL, Albert, 1879 Norwich, ENG > 1931 Seattle, WA 2. Describe what you already know. 3. Describe what you've already done in your research. 4. Describe what it is that you want to find out. 5. Show surnames in all CAPITAL letters so that they stand out. 6. Last but not least! Be sure to include ALL surnames INCLUDED in the message post in the SURNAME BOX seperated by commas. Example: Baum, Chum, Day, Hall, Kistner, Lane, Ross. *These are NOT all the surnames you are researching, ONLY the surnames included in the message post are appropriate. The subject line in a message plays a key role to successful communication. Many people are very busy and don't have a lot of time to spend sorting through numerous message posts or e-mail messages. In this case they may just skim through subject lines to find messages that interest them. Your subject line should be concise and detailed. Include a given name and the surname(s) and/or place name, as well as any pertinent dates. Doing so will ensure that your message will stand out from those that just say "Genealogy", "My Family", OR HALL Family." The surname box in a message also plays a key role to successful communication. This is particularly important because the surnames in the surname box are indexed so that people can find YOU when using the search engine. Make the subject line and surname box work for you! You will notice that messages coming through to the list from the message board gateway are showing the gateway address as the sender and NOT the person who posted the message on the board. This is due to upgrades made to the board system. The proper course of action has always been to click the link in the gateway post and reply on the board but now that method of replying has become mandatory as there is no way to reply via email to the board poster - any replies you wish to make MUST be posted on the board. Replying to only the LIST will NOT reach the board poster and clicking REPLY to the gateway post will result in the gateway address bouncing as it is NOT a valid address for receiving mail. You will notice that you MUST register to Post on the boards, this is nothing new! Registration is FREE! When you post, you will notice that if you reply on the board, you can click on the address and a message will either come up and say they have chosen to be anonomous. Ancestry is also requiring you to register. This is also FREE! Go to main Ancestry page and click on the tab that says Ancestry Community in the masthead. Next click the Site Preferences link and set the options you want regarding making your email address accessible to the public. It is also a good idea to REGISTER on the RootsWeb side: https://myaccount.rootsweb.com/ so that you have an account with RootsWeb as well but there is NO option to check off regarding your email address on the RootsWeb side. I hope you enjoy your association with the HALL Message Board and that it will be useful in furthering your knowledge of the HALL surname family. May it bring you lots of success in your genealogy research. Keep your ideals high enough to inspire you and low enough to encourage you. Thank you, enjoy, participate, and have a good time! I say apparently, as my great grandmother told my Aunty one day that John Hall junior was in fact born into the family Hog/Hogg, but that John and Margaret took him in. Thus far I've not been able to find a John Hall birth that I can definitely link to John and Margaret Hall, and without knowing any of the Hogg details, making that link is providing difficult. John Hall jnr married Harriet Mair Brown in Hamilton, Lanark in 1896, age 25. John Hall and Harriet Hall (nee Brown) finally settled in Australia, apparently having first living and working in India. John Hall senior married Margaret McKetterick in Johnstone in 1865, age 23. Margaret was 26 at the time. Her maiden name has been written at different times as McKetterick, McKitterick, McGurtrick. John Hall senior died in 1877. Margaret remarried to William Campbell later that year. If somebody else has been following this family, I'd be pleased to hear from you. The Kaufmans lived in and near Piopolis IL where an old Catholic church is located. This area was settled by Germans so William Hall may have liked the name Mathias but old Mr. Kaufman. Margaret's father was Matteus Kaufman. William Hall married Rebecca Warfield in 1842 in Hamilton County IL. So William was there about the time the Germans were leaving Germany to keep from being conscripted into the Kaiser's army. William Hall was born in IL in 1817/1818. Hope this helps a little. Also, my mother said that George Matthias went up around Chicago for his high school education and that he used to help her with math and chemistry in school. I thought the Halls were from around Springfield IL because George's sister, Mary A. went there to marry Charles E. Yocum. When and where was your grandfather born and what was his full name? Do you know her maiden name?
