    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: coombedingle Surnames: Hall, Davis-Hall, Wright, Reynolds, Skinner Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.hall/13784/mb.ashx Message Board Post: My Grandfather married under the name George Davis-Hall b 1890. He married Nelly Emily Reynolds 1901 (youngest daughter of Thomas Edward Reynolds and Eleanor Aves)whose first marriage to Mr. Wright lasted 6 months no children. They had 4 sons the youngest my father Albert Douglas. George died in 1940 when my father was 7 and no-one really knows where the name Davis-Hall came from. He was in the army as George Hall and rumor has it the he deserted as he loved horses and reinlisted in the calvery under the Davis-Hall name. Again it is said it was made from a friends surname of Davis and his last name. My uncles in the UK have been searching for years for any family of Georges but almost impossible as they have no birth certificate and no idea where he was born. They never heard mention of his parents or siblings. Somehow the name Skinner is remembered, but that has drawn blanks. Does anyone have a lost George Hall, maybe an orphane or perhaps born to parents who were in jail. ! Nelly came from a well respected family, and we cant understand why information about who she married was not known. Im not sure how to connect a George Hall to a particular family, but maybe there are circumstances that would explain. Hope someone can help as it would thrill my father and uncles to finally have a connection. Thanking you in advance...Julie Davis-Hall Family Tree Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. Hi Janna- Your Hall family is well known to New England Hall researchers, but, unless there was a connection prior to coming to America, this is not the same family as mine. My earliest known ancestor, Richard Hall, was in Hull, MA around 1670, but prior to that his origins are so far unknown. I believe your Hall line is known as the Barnstable Hall's, but the Hall rootsweb mailing list may be able to shed more light on this family. They now have 4 matching testers. I do see some confusion in the places of origin for these guys though. The earliest migrated from Ireland to KY, The 2nd migrated from VA to NC. The 3rd originated in MD and the 4th went from PA to AR. The 2nd and 3rd testers' ancestors were born only a few years apart. This situation raises some interesting questions about who the common ancestor was and whether more than one descendant of this ancestor came to America, residing in different locations. Cheers, Nel
