Hello, Every now and then you try to help a cousin with some family pursuit and you actually succeed. A cousin of mine in Alabama had been trying to join the DAR for many years. They kept turning her down, and she asked me to help. I wrote a long and compelling saga, complete with photos and references of documentation. This is my line too, from Ben and Thomas Hadley. I had always assumed that our line was recognized by the DAR, but not so, until now. The cousin is Cynthia Blount, and now she gets to join the local chapter. I would like to add that the material from the NC archives regarding the Hadley's participation in the NC militia in 1783 and 84, showing that Ben and his brothers did in fact serve, helped make the difference. This was recently unearthed by either Cindy Smith or Vickye White. I can't remember which, but they both do so much for our research efforts anyway. We don't yet know exactly how our line will be recognized by the DAR, but the results are forthcoming. I enclose Cynthia's letter to me below. She is not online. I really gave this one my best shot and it made me really happy to help this fine lady achieve her goal. Doncha love it when things go right? John Hadley March 10, 2001 Dear John: Thank you so very much for the letter to the DAR, the information and pictures to send to them. I sent that along with something that I had gotten to send them. I also wrote them a letter so I guess all of this information sent to them this time helped out. I received a card the other day from the DAR saying, "Your application for membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was verified on 2?22?2001 . Your membership will be formally accepted at the APR 14th meeting of the National Board of Management. An official membership certificate along with your national number will soon be mailed to you". I was also told to notify my chapter when I receive this card. I was surely glad and proud to receive this card and read what it said on it. Thanks again for all of your help. I would like to also thank you so very much for all the information you sent me on Thomas and Benjamin Hadley's life. It is real interesting reading about my ancestors of yesterday. I would like to go to Fayetteville and visit that part of the country. I imagine that you probably already had some of the information that I sent to you the other day. There was a John Hadley on the list of Hadleys that I sent to you. Is this John Hadley the same John Hadley that was in the picture that you sent me? If I can help you in any way please let me know and I will see what I can do to help you. I don't know if Mrs. Harrell will Write to me about the information I sent to her on Benjamin Hadley but I will let you know if she does write to me. Thanks again for everything you have done to help me. GOD BLESS AND TAKE CARE, Cynthia
