    1. [HADLEY] Hadley Marriages
    2. Cindy Smith
    3. Texas Hadleys, I just got back from a trip to the Allen County, Indiana Library. They have a wonderful Genealogy Department, even have some Texas Records. I browsed the Harrison County Texas Early Marriage Records 1839-1869, by Nancy Blakeley Ruff. These are the Hadley marriages: Jesse Hadley to Phely (sic) Smith Oct 13, 1853 [This is Phebe, we have this record in the database] John Hadley to Savanah Ursey Jan 14, 1864 William Hadley to Zoda Western Jan 21, 1864 John Hadley to Perene (sic) Ward June 19, 1866 [This is Perivine, this record is in the database] Julia Ann Hadley to Seaborn J Saunders Aug 26, 1852 [This is in the database now] Mrs. Julia Ann Sanders to Hatley Smith March 13, 1864 [This is in the database] I have browsed the Hadley site and don't find Savannah and Zoda. Did John Hadley marry twice? Is Perevine Ward John Hadley's second wife? I saw this note on William and Sallie Stewart Hadley's page that suggests William may have had a second wife. [From Hadley database]"Census records of 1870---Aug. 9, 1870-Garden Valley-Smith Co., Texas (near Longview) Sarah Hadley-age listed as 31 Children: Edward-13 Mary-17 Samuel-8 Frances-6 Benjamin-4 Martha Ward was also living with them. Martha's age-17. [From Hadley database] "Because of Sarah's age here, we wonder if she was the second wife of William and if, in fact, there were 2 families here. John "Bud", William "Tete", and Mary Mollie being half-siblings to the others." The Harrison County Book by Nancy Blakeley Ruff published in 1983, is a compilation from a typed transcript made in the 1930's. The originals were destroyed by fire or water many years ago. I have found several errors in the transcript. It is possible that Zoda in the marriage record is a Zorah or Sara. In the 1870 Smith Co. census was Sarah written very clearly and or could it be Zorah or Zoda? I can't even find this Hadley household on my 1870 online index, is there another surname as head of household? Anyone have any ideas about these marriages?
