He served in the South Wales Borderers and then later went to Canada as a Battery Sargeant Major with the Canadian Expeditionary Forces in 1914. His father was Charles Hadley also of Dudley in Worcesterchire England ,born in 1853.He had as at 1901 2 sisters Ruth also born in Dudley in 1801 , Mary born in Dudley in 1887, and 3 brothers Harry born in Dudley 1884, William born in Dudley 1892 Charles was born in Dudley 1896.
