Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Linda & List - This Elias Hadley either went undetected in Census of 1850 & 1860 in Indiana or slipped in and out again between the Censuses. My best guess for identification would be Elias Hadley, b.13 Nov 1826, Orange co,NC, son of Jacob Hadley (1786-1878) & Ruth Hadley. I don't have a marriage recorded for him in my Quaker Hadley database. His brother Simon Hadley (1810-1896) & wife Eunice Hobson appear in Census of 1850, Washington twp, Parke co,IN; hh#540; also in Census of 1860, Washington twp, Parke co,IN; hh#1097. So this "guess" is supportable. If the wife Zerilda died also in 1858, he may have gone on to Iowa; many people did so. Further research on ancestry.com turned up information in the Indiana Marriages Database, 1845-1920. There is a listing for Zerilda Hankins and Elias Hadley married in Parke County on 03 Oct 1852 - (Original Source Page 99). The dates match since it looks like the date that their daughter Martha E. Hadley died was Nov. 25, 1858. I will verify this when we get back to check the stones again. PS I have looked through the data base trying to find these folks but no luck. There is a Zerilda Hadley listed but the dates are too late for this one you have found. There are a lot of Elias Hadleys listed, also, quite a few Martha E Hadleys, but I could not match these up. Frustrating !!!!! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cox, Linda" <lindacox@uiuc.edu> To: <HADLEY-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, August 26, 2002 12:04 PM Subject: [HADLEY-L] Zerilla Hadley ??? > We found the stone for (we are guessing here) Zerilla Hadley, wife of Elias Hadley and their daughter, Martha E.Hadley (died 1858). Unfortunately, we did not get a very clear picture of the stones but we will be going back soon to clean the stone and get better pictures. In the meantime I have posted the pictures we did take on my website at: http://www.lindamclark.net/Family/pictures/hadley/index.htm. > Linda ==== HADLEY Mailing List ==== Anti-virus software is invaluable, provided you keep it updated and use it regularly. If you would like to look at the list of known underground railroad operators, it is on <www.ugrr.org> It has many states, not just Indiana. By the way, I need to correct myself on my original statement. Alfred Hadley was not married to Levi Coffin's sister. Rhoda was probably Levi's cousin. It is thought that Rhoda was the illegitimate daughter of Ann Vestal and Elihu Coffin. The minutes mention a marriage between Ann and Elihu but later Ann and Rhoda are both shown as Vestal. I should not have relied on memory when I said Rhoda was Levi's sister. Levi Coffin's autobiography is available online and in it he also mentions Job Hadley.
