I was asking Tim what information he had that led him to think the Hadley family might be Welsh in origin. We are not Irish, except that 2 generations lived in Ireland prior to coming to PN in 1712. My research has found a Hadley family in Quatt, Salop (now Shropshire) that used the distinctive name Simon in two generations. I have both wills from 1590 and 1635. Quatt is very near to the Welsh border. I was hoping for some additional evidence. Even though we have no proof of our ancestors prior to Simon Hadley, who died in Ireland 1711, we do have very certain information about the beginnings of the Hadley family surname. The Domesday book of 1086 listed a Hatlege Manor in Salop. It is still there, as a subdivision of industrial Telford, and called Hadley. It is not proven, but certainly likely, that all of the Hadleys in this area throughout history came from this first Hadley family. William de Hedlega and his two sons signed several documents in 1100 AD as lords of the Manor of Hadley ( or Hedlega as it was said back then). There are many recorded documents about this Hadley family and I have been collecting them. Even if we never prove the parents of Simon Hadley, we can collect the source documents available and have a better history of the Hadley family.
