    1. [HADLEY-L] Zerilla Hadley ???

    3. Hi Sunday in our search for Civil War soldiers graves we stopped at a cemetery we decided to call the Connor Cemetery because Civil War soldier Samuel Connor, his wife, and daughter are buried near the road. It is a very old cemetery located on CR 540W in Parke County, Indiana at N39° 51.735' W87° 20.086'. The burials seem to be mostly during the mid 1800's. We did not have much time to spend there since we were on our way elsewhere when we came upon it so we plan to make a return trip soon. We found the stone for (we are guessing here) Zerilla Hadley, wife of Elias Hadley and their daughter, Martha E.Hadley (died 1858). Unfortunately, we did not get a very clear picture of the stones but we will be going back soon to clean the stone and get better pictures. In the meantime I have posted the pictures we did take on my website at: <http://www.lindamclark.net/Family/pictures/hadley/index.htm> http://www.lindamclark.net/Family/pictures/hadley/index.htm. It was a quick post and the pictures are about 40k to 50k so they may download a little slow on a 56K connection. I will be trying to edit the pictures for better quality and size as soon as I get a chance. I will also redo the page once we have gotten better pictures. If anyone knows anything about these people I would be delighted if they would share it. As always, if you would like a jpeg of the higher resolution pictures send me email and I will be glad to send it to you. Sometime ago, my cousin, Bill Craycraft, located the grave of Sophia Hadley Lewis, the daughter of Jonathan Hadley and Rebecca White at Rush Creek Cemetery in Parke County, Indiana. Since the stone was missing he had a stone put on her grave. I have pictures of about a dozen Hadley stones from Rush Creek Cemetery that I have to get posted! And as a brief aside, on the subject of responding to email. Some important points to remember are to include enough of the original message to give the recipient a clear idea of what you are responding to. It is usually many messages or days later before other people see the response! However, only quote what is necessary to make it clear what you are responding to and do delete all of the extraneous stuff at the bottom of the message you are replying to (yahoo footers, signature files, etc). Do pay attention to where you are sending your reply. As pointed out previously, some responses should be sent only to the original sender while others should go to the list. I know that occasionally I will see a message with an inquiry and no responses. I sometimes wonder if no one had an answer or if they responded privately to the sender! The messages from John, Ray, Cindy, and all the others are very interesting and always helpful. Even when it isn't my Hadley line, I never know when it will turn out to be! 3. Linda, Thanks for all of the good work here. We collect all of the Hadley family photos on the Hadley Society photo gallery page. Sherri Hadley Rice is in charge of this and she is doing a great job. When you get the more clear versions of these headstones, please forward to Sherri for inclusion. She has made one entire section dedicated to headstones and grave markers. We also have a section for unknown Hadleys so all of the researchers can see these mysteries and try to help solve them. For those of you who have not seen the HS photo gallery, I include the web site address: http://www.hadleysociety.org/index1.html It is a passion of mine to collect all of the family images that we can. So many get lost as each generation passes. We are also putting all of these on disc so they are preserved for our ancestors. These discs (CDs) have all three of the HS volumes by Healton, and importantly also have all of the updates we have added in the last 40 years or so. The only source of the current Hadleys to my knowledge is this CD. We do not include anyone born after 1905 on the internet data base for privacy reasons. The HS sells this disc at about cost. We are non-profit. If any of you fellow researchers have some Hadley family photos. documents, etc, please get them scanned and sent to Sherri. Her address is on the link above. The Hadley Society annual reunion is coming up soon. It is in Whittier California. You are all invited. Details are on the web site. Any questions please write to me. Thank you John Hadley president, Hadley Society PS I have looked through the data base trying to find these folks but no luck. There is a Zerilda Hadley listed but the dates are too late for this one you have found. There are a lot of Elias Hadleys listed, also, quite a few Martha E Hadleys, but I could not match these up.
