Hi Cousins, Just wanted to drop you a note about our reunion at the end of September in Whittier California. You have likely seen the details with the times, etc. I just wanted to add that one feature will be very interesting. For decades, the Hadley Society collected materials sent by people from all over the US and beyond. No one really had the time to do much with this material except put it in boxes according to categories. Last year, Sherri Hadley Rice, Terry McLean and myself, spent the day prior to the reunion sorting through these boxes and divided up the materials according to subject matter. Jim and Jean Hadley took some additional materials that were relevant to researchers from their area. There were about 15 large boxes, enough to fill the back of a pick-up truck!! Sooooo, this year we will be presenting some brief details of "What is in the boxes!!" While digging through the materials last year we found a copy of an original document from the early 1700s with Simon, Ruth and Joshua's signatures. That may be the highlight, but who knows? Like most of the others, I have yet to read through most of it, so as of now none of us know what is there either!! I think there will be some good stuff, so if you can make it, please attend. We will be spending all day Friday doing some brainstorming, prior to the reunion on Saturday. One of our key topics will be how to make the HS more of a national and international organization. Since the advent of the internet, our membership has gained a much wider scope. We would like to help organize regional HS chapters and reunions. We would really appreciate your input as to how we could do this more effectively. There are several existing Hadley family reunions, and some areas that have fairly dense Hadley relative populations. These are the obvious choices but what really makes these functions work is the involvement of a few people that can take charge and make it a success. We are thinking that the HS could send some officers, members, speakers, etc to help give these efforts some backing from the "mother" branch and make everyone feel more a part of the whole. Make sense? We know it's difficult and expensive to travel great distances. Many of you would like to attend but can't justify the time and money. So regional reunions would give all of us a better opportunity to meet each other and share information, photographs and a few laughs. Please help us with this effort and we will all be the richer for it. We are a small group, with only a hand full of people doing most all of the work. Every extra helping hand is really appreciated and important. This isn't just a hobby, it's our family. Think about this and come to Whittier if you can make it. Thanks John Hadley president, Hadley Society
