    1. [HADLEY] Simon Hadley - surry Co NC
    2. I found another file with a Letter from Thomas HAMM dated 23 Dec 1978. In that letter he mentions he has enclosed 2 land grants in "Surry (now Yadkin) County, North Carolina to Simon HADLEY (1737-1803, the son of Joshua and Patience (BROWN) HADLEY..." He also include marriage bond of Simon and Mary (SPENCER) HADLEY. I have yet to find the second land grant he mentions in his letter, but at least now it is identified as to which Simon it was.. As I mentioned before, these docs will all eventually go on the website. Terry

    1. [HADLEY] Simon Hadley - Surry Co NC
    2. I found a deed for 200 a Surry Co NC for Simon HADLEY dated 1795. I can only assume it it Simon who md Mary SPENCER or his father who md Bridget FOOTE. Can any clarify this? It is a bad copy, hard to read. The land description is on the North Fork of Deep Creek... beginning 'above John WILLIAM's Mill....' and '.... on JOHNSON's line...' Eventually it will go in the photo gallery at hadleysociety.org if we can clean it up enough to be legible. Thanks, Terry

    1. [HADLEY] Hadleys--1810 Reconstructed TN Census (Forthcoming)
    2. Hello Everyone, The author of the upcoming above captioned volume sent me a flyer for the book. He is the author of several other fine TN books, such as TN Convicts which, assuming you don't mind black sheep in your family (and heavens knows we have enough of them here), provides you with info on prison records that includes, among other things: physical descriptions of the prisioner, names of next of kin, their locations designed to provide directions in case relatives need to be contacted (ie, not just name, county and state). Anyway, in the flyer he uses as his example the page which has the Hadleys on it! I am pasting in the flyer below. I know there are some of you out there interested in these Hadleys; I can't remember off the top of my head which one of Simon II's children is the Sumner co Hadley ancestor. All I remember is there was an impressive "house". Best Regards, Janet Hunter An Important New Tennessee Resource The Reconstructed 1810 Census of Tennessee 33,000 long-lost records from more than 70 sources · tax lists · court minutes · wills & estates · church records · deeds · legislative acts · petitions · land grants The original Tennessee census for 1810 was destroyed with other records in Washington, D.C., long before microfilm was invented. With it went many valuable clues to Tennessee history and genealogy from a period when the state was filled with families seeking cheap land and migrating westward. In order to reconstruct the lost census, the author searched a wide variety of records from 1809 to 1811 in an effort to track every adult male in Tennessee. Many entries describing women, children, free blacks and slaves were also located.
