Does anyone have a line of Hadleys in Gregg Co., Texas? I'm looking for an Amos Ben Hadley, died about 1878. I can't find a likely suspect on the Hadley Society database, and I don't have him in my database. Hello, Vickye White has received some documents from the NC archives regarding the Hadley family. She and I are both from the Thomas and Mary Thompson Hadly line. The search was for Thomas Hadly, but the listing from the CCMM has 2 pages of Hadly listings that contain far more than our direct line. As I cannot send attachments to this list, please write me if you would like a copy. There are also about 8 other documents, mostly from the NC Militia, Wilmington unit. These are back pay vouchers for service and also one where Capt Thomas Hadly sold corn and rice to the revolutionaries. Some of the CCMM listings are interesting as they list the dates where the sons and daughters were disowned for marrying out of meeting. I have compared these dates with what we have listed in the HS volumes. Some match closely, others are a few years off. I have always been suspicious of some of the dates listed for this branch of the family. While the date of their disownment is likely not the precise date of the marriage, it does give some reference point. Also, many of the dates listed in the HS volumes unfortunately are not supported by any documents. ThisCCMM list at least gives us some additional documentation. Let me know if you want to have a copy of these materials. John Hadley
Vickey Could this be one of Joshua Hadleys that I find around TX before 1850? I have run into several in different places & did not think they could be the same man. Pat Oates in TX. If this is a repeat, I am sorry. I don't remember if I have sent this information before. This is not my Joshua Hadly/Hadley, he was in TX before this. Joshua Hadley in Choctaw Co. MS in 1840. he was 30-40, one son under 5, wife 30-40, two daus 15-20, and two daus 5-10. his name is next to a Lawrence Latham and a James Miller. That's all I know about him. Vickye White
Texas Hadleys, I found a record of a Jessie C. Hadley, born 21 November 1890, died 29 June 1917, buried in Pioneer Rest Cemetery, Menard Co., Texas, located section 6, #70. This is not Jesse, son of James "Doll" Hadley and Mary Ann Hicks, and it is not Jesse Cornelius son of Jesse and Phebe (Smith) Hadley. It could be Jesse Cornelius, son of Samuel Hadley and Elizabeth Carroll. They married in 1879. Does anyone on the list know for sure who this is? His birthdate and death is not on the Hadley Society database. Thanks, Cindy _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com

A follow up to the note I sent about the Hadley books for sale at Higginson books: I have had several private responses, and everyone seems to have had a good experience with this company. Higginson apparently takes out of print / out of copyright books, and make quality photocopies, as they receive orders for them. I have been told they are of good quality and durable, though if you plan to handle them much, order the more durable binding. As they 'print to order', anticipate that it can take a few weeks to receive your order. Make sure you review the summaries carefully, to ensure getting the book you want. One lady suggested you can try looking at a library or microfilm copy first, to make sure the book will be something of use to you, and then order your own copy. Thanks for all the input! I just talked to the Distribution center at Salt Lake. They are out of the 1880 Census index CD. They have 50,000 coming in August 1st. If you ordered it and have not received it you may want to call them. If you placed the order over the internet your card was not charged, and the order canceled once they ran out. If you receive this on more than one list from me sorry. Martha
Hello, Hadley Researchers, The Hadley list is remarkable in its character: it's a great group of genealogists -- and probably most of you don't need to see the following. But just in case there're "newbies" on the list, and to keep this the remarkable, mature, and easy-to-manage list that it is, voila!! here's a reminder about virus warnings sent out on the list: Recently, some members were contacted privately, by another list member, about a possible virus. It turned out to be a hoax, as 99.9% of them are, and the sender has acknowledged his error. His private mailing did not violate list guidelines. There were responses sent, though, possibly as a result, to the list. Mailing list guidelines request not to send virus warnings to the list for good reasons. 1) They almost always generate a lot of response ("I got that one, too!" or "Here's how to get it off your hard drive." etc.) These are well intentioned, as is the warning. 2) All this mail is stored at Rootsweb on their servers. Multiply this mailing list by the thousands Rootsweb holds, and you can see why they recommend listowners not to allow such postings and to keep things on topic: the resultant emails take up lots of space. No one culls Mailing List archives for irrelevant mail. It ALL goes into the archives. 3) Most virus warnings are fake. Before sending one along, good advice is to first check out the warning. Here's McAfee's page on the SULFNBK hoax (with instructions on replacing the file in case you deleted it): http://vil.mcafee.com/dispVirus.asp?virus_k=99084& For future information, here's their page listing all known viruses up to now: http://vil.mcafee.com/hoax.asp? Other websites maintain similar lists. Try a search on google or other search engine. 4) Because of Number 3, above, needless warnings can send internet users into "virus warning fatigue," leading them to ignore a REAL virus warning because they've seen so many hoaxes and are tired of them. A real virus is a serious problem, as our friend and original "warn-er" found out last year. It's a sort of "cry wolf" issue. I hope the above is useful to you. As we move into the summer, what is normally high level genealogy time, I wish you the best in your research.
