Patty, Are any of those from Yorkshire? I'm just beginning my search & my husband mentioned he thought there was a connection to Yorkshire, but he didn't know when. Off to work now, I'll check back, probably tomorrow. Thanks!! At 8/9/0210:00 AM, you wrote: >Hi, >I have the following Hadley's. > >Any info would be appreciated. > >Patty > >
As far as I can tell most of mine were from Indiana. The rest of the family doesn't know too much about them. I'm the 1st one to catch the genealogy bug. Information is sketchy at best!! :-( Thanks!! My brick wall: Jacob Hadley, b. 8 March 1751/52 in New Hampshire, died in Vermont 4 Oct 1840. married Elizabeth Putnam (b. 15 Apr 1853 Wilton, Hillsboro, NH), on 26 Nov 1778. I have lots of info on the Putnams, and I believe Jacob's father is Joseph b. 1722, married to Martha Guile, but this part of my research is foggy. Information I have on Jacob: Jacob Hadley enlisted in the Revolutionary army at Goffstown, NH and served at the battle of Lexington in April 1776, in Col. Stark's regiment, and at the battle of Bunker Hill in April '75. He was among the earliest settlers at New London, NH and his name is among the signatures for the petition for incorporating the town, Jan. 22, 1779. About 1785 he settled on a farm at Hancock, NH, and subsequently moved to Hyde Park, VT. This information was obtained from newspaper clippings from Trudy and Ella Mae Dahl, elderly sisters and descendants from Michigan. We also have a letter from them. She mentions "Hadley Hall, Morristown, N.Y." In the D.A.R. Patriot Index - Centennial Edition page 1261, I got his birth & death dates and he's listed with Elizabeth Putnam. The book states he was a private. He's not listed in the Graves of Revolutionary Patriots. He is in the Orleans county, VT section of The Pension Roll of 1835, Vol. 1, page 957. Any information you can help with is certainly appreciated. Thank you, Margie in Half Moon Bay

There are a lot of Hadley families, any spelling, in the 1800s in Ohio. Many came from North and South Carolina. Many many were Quakers. While doing library research on Monday, I found a "Tombstone Inscription" listed in "Early Settlers of New York State", volume 2 by Janet Wethy Foley, this information: Primitve Cemetery in Town of Mexico, Oswego County, NY HADLEY, Abram, 1808-1894 Jemima, 1812-1878 I do know that Jemima's maiden name was Townsend. I also know that they were living in Mexico, NY at the time her father's will was probated, June of 1870. The above information is the first I have been able to find about them in the Town of Mexico. If anyone has any further information, such as any children, etc. I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you, Lucy
Are you or your immediate predecessors in the Simon Hadley II line, as described in the Hadley Society or other geneology tracker sites? FYI, my oldest son is named Tim...just graduated from law school.
I was replying to an e-mail from the list. I don't know if we are related. Tim Hadley Farmersville OH
