One maybe he was the son of one of his unwed sisters and the mother claimed him as hers so her daughter would not have to bear the shame, or mother had him out of wedlock since her husband was dead, or somehow they got his date of birth wrong. If you look at censuses they may have different dates of birth on 4 different occasions. We have a simular problem with our gggrandfather he died in 1851, and his first wife died in 1849. He remarried in 1850 and had a daughter born in 1853. But siblings from the first marriage listed her as their half sister.
