You probably wouldn't have ever heard of John Haddix. But I'm sure that Dessie and a John Haddix were the parents of my grandmother, but since she was born so close to her death, I assume that nothing was made "official". My grandmother told me directly that he was her biological father and that he was killed in a mining accident. I have found the records of his death, but just can't make much of a connection between him and Dessie. Closest that I have come is a census from when my grandmother was about 1 yr old & her last name then was Haddix & she was listed as the dependant of William VanScoy (Maud Haddix). I know that my grandmother considered William VanScoy to be her "father" because he raised her as his child. I found another connection to the VanScoy family (blood) a couple of generations back, so I think the families were close. Do you happen to know anyone who knew Dessie? I appreciate your help!
